It’s National First Love Day!! I would love to hear about your heart horse ♥️🐴 even if it wasn’t your first love! Share pics of your heart horse with the hashtag !!
Here, I’ll go first. This is Spike………
Spike is a special little Dun pony with a heart of gold who LOVES children. He has the most adorable face that makes you just want to kiss him forever!! 💋
We first met him at a horse rescue we volunteered with. He and another female pony were surrendered after their owner passed away. They lived for 2 years in a junk yard before anyone found them! They came to us in decent shape but clearly had not been cared for properly.
Spike was a magnet for the little kids because he was ‘just their size’! He received lots of love and attention and ate well!
My daughter was immediately drawn to him! They developed a special bond immediately. Initially he wouldn’t let anyone touch him, except for her! They continued their bond over the years. I’m thankful for Spike coming in to our lives because he taught my daughter many valuable lessons, from how to ride ba****ck, to how to fall off, how to pull mane, how to blanket and how to pick hooves. Although, the biggest lesson he taught us was that sometimes even though you love something...you have to let it go.
Over the years, Spike has come in and out of our lives. There’s a part of me that wishes we would have taken him the last time we saw him, but he needed more than we could give him. Here, he’d just be a pasture pony. I believe his life’s work is helping kids, and that’s what he needs to continue to do.
The impression Spike made on my heart (and my daughters) will never be forgotten! He truly is my heart horse!
Sharing one of my favorite pictures of my girl and Spike. 💕
