“Gunnar”
Your mom messaged me in May of 2014 about a 2 year old golden needing some play at the farm. Little did I know that over the next 10.5 years I’d get to know maybe the best golden retriever I’ve ever met. Monday I got a message about the end. Kidney failure…days are numbered. My right hand man Jake and I got the opportunity to go see him Wednesday before his family said their final goodbyes. I’ve gotten this opportunity a handful of times to do this with some special dogs. It’s the worst but appreciate getting to do it. Can’t tell you how many days I’ve spent with Gunnar or how many nights he spent the night at the farm but I bet it’s in the hundreds. What I can tell you is that Gunnar was a huge part of the Sawnee story. He’s in our logo! He was a typical golden in the sense of being a lover but also so much more. He had a few special relationships with dogs including 2 of my own Nellie & Malu! He loved all dogs. He loved his treats but most of all he just wanted to be near somebody. I’d be passing out treats in the yard and if he wasn’t front and center getting the treats then I could feel him breathing on my neck behind me (once his momma put him on treat restrictions😂) I’m going to miss Gunnar! I’ve had to say goodbye to lots of dogs over the years…not many like Gunnar. 💔
