🐾 Lake Days with Dogs: What Every Owner Should Know 🌊

A day at the lake can be the perfect adventure for you and your pup—but hidden dangers can put your dog at risk. Here are the top things to keep in mind before heading out:

🌊 Water Safety
• Life jackets save lives – Even strong swimmers can get tired, disoriented, or caught in currents.
• Watch for fatigue – Take regular breaks on shore and provide fresh drinking water.
• Avoid fast-moving water – Rivers, currents, or boat wakes can quickly overwhelm dogs.

🦠 Hidden Hazards in Lakes
• Blue-green algae (toxic blooms) – These can be deadly if ingested. Keep your dog out of water that looks green, foamy, or scummy.
• Parasites & bacteria – Dogs can get sick from swallowing lake water (e.g., giardia, leptospirosis). Always offer clean drinking water.
• Fishing gear & litter – Hooks, lines, and trash can cause serious injuries.

🐕 Shoreline Safety
• Hot sand & rocks can burn paws.
• Sharp shells or glass can cut pads—check paws after play.
• Wildlife encounters (snakes, snapping turtles, etc.) are more common around lakes.

🧴 After-Lake Care
• Rinse your dog with fresh water to remove algae, bacteria, and debris.
• Dry ears well—especially in floppy-eared breeds—to help prevent infections.
• Watch for signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, coughing) in the days after your trip.

✨ With a little preparation, lake days can be safe, fun, and memorable for both you and your pup.

🐾 Heat Exhaustion in Dogs & Cats: Know the Signs, Save a Life 🐶🐱☀️

As temperatures rise, our furry friends are at increased risk of heat exhaustion—a dangerous condition that can escalate into heat stroke if not caught early. Unlike humans, dogs and cats can’t sweat to cool off. They rely mostly on panting and limited sweating through their paw pads, making them more vulnerable in hot and humid weather.

🔥 Common Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
• Excessive panting or drooling
• Lethargy or weakness
• Bright red or pale gums
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Unsteady walking or collapse
• Increased heart rate
• Glazed or anxious expression

🚨 What to Do:
1. Move them to a cool, shaded area immediately.
2. Offer small amounts of cool (not cold) water.
3. Wet their paws, belly, and ears with lukewarm water.
4. Use a fan to help with evaporation.
5. Get them to a vet ASAP—heat exhaustion can escalate quickly.

🧊 Prevention Tips:
• Never leave pets in a parked car—even with windows cracked.
• Avoid walks during peak heat (opt for early morning or evening).
• Provide plenty of shade and fresh water outdoors.
• Be extra cautious with short-nosed breeds like Pugs, Bulldogs, and Persians.
• Keep indoor spaces cool with fans or AC.

💡 Heat exhaustion is an emergency. Early recognition and fast action can save your pet’s life. Keep them cool, hydrated, and safe this summer! 🌴🐕🐈
