How to collect a sample:

1. Label a Ziploc bag with name of the horse and your last name
2. Put a FRESH f***l ball (or a few) into the bag
3. Put it in the fridge until you can get it into the clinic (preferably the same day)
4. Drop off at the front desk

Help your horse out by:
💦 Having free access to cool ( 45°F to 65°F), fresh water.
🚿 Cooling a hot horse rapidly by running cool water over them
⛱️Having access to shade through the day
🍌Providing some extra electrolytes or having access to salt 🧂 to promote drinking

Potomac Horse Fever

What To Know:
It is a non contagious, infectious equine disease
Most commonly occurs in summer and fall
Horses typically become infected by ingesting aquatic insects such as mayflies
Horses that live near rivers, ponds, creeks, or other natural water sources, are more vulnerable to become infected

Symptoms:
High fever
diarrhea
Lethargy
Laminitis
Mild to moderate colic
Abortion in pregnant mares
