Let the calving season begin!!🐮 Pippy's 1st calf.... another heifer. 2 more coming soon - Bitsy and Blackie.... Hopefully one of my 8 ladies will give me a bull calf this year!! If not, guess I'll be selling a bunch of calves. 🤣

Carl Jan 21, 2020 - Oct 5, 2021

Today we lost one our precious animals. Carl was 1/2 llama, 1/2 alpaca. Born 1/21/2020 and passed away this morning 10/5/2021 at 6:30am. He was doing so much better yesterday and we thought he was over the hump and on his way to recovery. Woke up this morning to find him extremely weak and his breathing was very bad.
Carl was extremely lovable, and would always meet you at the gate, loved to give you kisses, follow you around, and always thought he had to "help" you when you were working in the field. My heart is so broken, he was so young still. He will be extremely missed.

Of course, it's snowing!! But excited on our new bull calf born this morning. Big Red is extremely protective, already knocked me on the ground when I was trying to dry him off and move him to the shelter. Thank goodness for wheelbarrows! She was still, of course, trying to get him out of the wheelbarrow when I was moving him... why couldn't she just deliver in the lean to, would have been so much easier and the calf wouldn't have been snowed on. He's very cold, so hopefully he'll warm up soon and nurse.

Our first heifer calf!! Born 12/28/2020
First couple of days were quite an experience for this farmer. Had to brace her back legs when she was born cause she was rolling her back hooves and walking on her first joint. Tok those off the second day and has been walking better every day! So with that said, momma - Bitsy would not let her suck. So I got to nurse the calf for 2 days. 3rd day shackled Bitsy and got the calf to latch on with the help of me. Now today, last photo, calf is doing it all on her own. Whew... thank goodness I don't have to bottle fed for 3 months. Praying that the next 3 calves aren't this difficult!!
