My name is Annie Scalf and I am the owner and founder of Walter’s Walks, LLC. From dogs and cats to horses and iguana’s and just about everything in between. In 2009 my husband and I decided to get our very own dog for the first time. This dog’s name was Walter and he was everything to us and made me go from an animal lover to being head over heels for all fur babies . Walter and I were always tog
ether. Whether it was a car ride to the bank or taking him to the gym with me while I trained my gymnastic team. Unfortunately, Walter had many health issues including a heart murmur, multiple tumor growths and collapsing episodes and had to leave us just a couple months shy of his 7th Birthday due to a tumor on his spine causing paralysis. After some time of grieving my Husband and I decided it was time for a new addition to our family and his name is Bus (named after my Grandfather). Bus has had some aggression issues since he was a young puppy and took us into the world of dog training. Through my boys’ issues we attended many boot camps and seminars along with group and private training classes learning quite a bit in the behaviors of dogs and how to help them lead happier healthier lives by knowing how to handle aggression issues and be able to see the signs of anxiety and stress. I also discovered an even deeper love and appreciation for our furry friends than before now knowing how to understand them more. Not to mention a passion for learning dog training. Bringing me to volunteer at K-9 services in Wilmington, NC walking dogs in training when I can. When my Husband and I moved here to Leland NC in 2019 I decided I wanted to leave the gymnastic world and do something where I could help animals. I happened to find an ad for help with dog walking and pet services for the Wilmington area and that’s when it hit me like a bolt of lightning. This is what I was looking for, this is what I was destined to do. I got the job and started on my 3 ½ year journey of taking care of animals and walking dogs. I also obtained my pet CPR and First Aid certification along with my Fear Free Professional Certification and became an assistant office manager and lead pet sitting trainer. Sadly, the company I worked for decided to close its doors in October 2022 as the owner had made the choice to venture into a new journey in life. With that I made up my mind that I would start my own boutique dog walking and cat care company in Leland, and so Walter’s Walks was born.
