Willoughby Croft Guernsey Dairy Goats

Willoughby Croft Guernsey Dairy Goats We are a performance herd in SW WA committed to raising high-quality British Guernsey, Mini Nubian, & Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats for show & milk. Life is good.

Our main focus is on Udders/Milk. We participate in 305-day milk testing, linear appraisals, & local shows. This adventure began back in 1997 when I was living in Spanaway, WA, on 1.5 acres. At that time I had a dozen hens, 6 sheep and an angora goat. I spent my days raising children, caring for my critters, and spinning wool into yarn. My husband decided to turn our garage into a fiber studio to

give me a place to store my many wheels and newly acquired floor looms. It is at this time that my life made a bit of a detour. Somehow that fiber studio became a yarn shop. Which was soon outgrown and the shop moved to 4631 Pacific Ave.in Tacoma, WA. I was the proprietress of Lamb's Ear Yarn for 12 years. And 12 years in retail is plenty long enough. In 2011, at the age of 52, I was able to retire and return to the farming lifestyle that I love. My life has come full circle. In 2014 I moved to Winlock, WA. I now live in a 1904 converted schoolhouse on over an acre. Willoughby Croft was born. I raise Registered Dairy Goats.

I love this time of year on the farm. Almost all the kids are weaned, LA's are done, milk testing is to the point where I can start drying off some does, and thoughts are turning to prepping for breeding season.

We had a milk test yesterday. I have 4 does that are still in contention for getting milk stars. Those 4 will stay on test, along with a 5th doe that won't get her star but she's just so fun to milk. And then there are 3 promising FF'ners who won't get a star this year and who I am drying off.

The 4 does who can possibly earn a star are:
Golden Plains Montana Skye (Mini Nubian) *moon spots*
Johnson FF DR Betty (Nigerian Dwarf) *LA'd VVEV 87*
Oakfield MI Silver Storm (FF'ner Nigerian Dwarf) * chocolate silver*
BGS Flyingcolors Robin (FF'ner Guernsey)
and the one that's just fun to milk...
His Grace Acres Allegra (FF'ner Guernsey). She has nice orifices and milks out to nothing.

Since I'm only milking 5, I can switch to hand milking and not have extra work cleaning a milking machine. I finished chores by 9pm tonight. Usually, it's been after 11pm when I finished. Maybe I can start to catch up on my sleep. 😴💤💤💤

Now that ADGA is back to awarding milk stars, I am going through all of my goats to see who's effected.

First up is my beautiful 🩶SILVER🩶 F1 doe, Urban Acres S Steel Magnolia. Maggie is a FF'ner this year. She's got a cute, socked on udder. I can't wait to see how she blooms with a second freshening. This is her dam and paternal granddam. Her maternal granddam and grandsire also have their stars.

It's finally happened.🎉💃👏🍾🥂 Something I'd given up on ever seeing.

Urban Acres GG Ginger 2*M
~and~
Sans Gene EP Skeeter 6*M

are official!!!! No more having to write "pending" for their milk stars.

Ginger is the first ADGA doe I've tested to receive her star. I have a couple of her daughters who will remain here. Ginger is seeking a new farm.

Skeeter has moved on but I have retained her beautiful SILVER granddaughter.

Now that ADGA is back to awarding milk stars I will be even more excited to milk test in the future!

We finally got a break in the heat. Today was cool and overcast with a refreshing breeze. Just the kind of day I needed to do a deep clean on the barn. The kids will have clean sheets tonight. 🥰

That goat p*e smell sure lingers in your nostrils. P*e ewww! 🤧
