“Grooming the Old Dog”

Meet Barkley, he’s a 15 year old Lhasa Apso. When he came to me for grooming his owner warned me he might be “difficult” and the previous groomer was unable to finish. Despite her warning, my experience with Barkley was pleasant. Was Barkley defensive and reactive? Yes, but he was understandably so and not unreasonable. Unfortunately, in my 10 years of experience I’ve heard this same story many times.

How am I able to groom them while other groomers struggle? To groom the older dog it takes compassion, patience, a gentle hand, understanding and EXPERIENCE. Our older companions are arthritic, losing their eye site and hearing. They are defensive and reactive. Some groomers will rush the job, pulling on mats and manipulating limbs in quick and uncomfortable ways causing discomfort and defensiveness. Over time the older dog associates pain with grooming and becomes “difficult”.

It takes experience to understand and compassion to care. 🥰 Barkley left my house handsome and happy because I understand and I care.

Meet Rosie everyone! 🌹 🥰
I’ve taken her on as a foster. She’s the sweetest girl!

She’s a 9 years young Great Dane and she is available for adoption. This poor sweet girl was abandoned at a kill shelter, at 9 years old, by her original family. 💔
She deserves a loving family where she can live her golden years.

Please message me if you think you can provide a loving home. I will be picky about where she goes.
