Today marks 16 years, my sweet 16, of clean and sober time. It was the first time I threw myself a recovery birthday party, a tea party that mimicked my original sweet 16 (last pic). I never would have dreamed of a life as beautiful as the one I have today.

I was surrounded by people I loved who were celebrating that I am still here and still trying to grow and thrive. That I stayed and didn't pick up, no matter what. I felt loved and felt an overwhelming love for everyone who attended or reached out today. What a gift it is to see people doing the work and fighting the fight to stay here. I feel so honored to get to be a part of the fight.

I love you all, my support system, my family, my friendos, and the thousands of addicts I've met over the last 16 years, who showed me the way by taking the steps to choose life. What an incredible life. Thank you for all so much ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Some simple images of joy, beauty, and serenity. As things have felt hot and all-consuming politically, my personal life has also been infused with things you could call challenges, but what I did with the challenges has been the true gift.

Illness, estrangement, high stress events like divorce court and holding boundaries with people I love, forgiveness, protest. All of these have been present in the last few weeks. And none of it is turning me into the wreck I surely would have become in my previous world. I was left wondering how and why.

One particular moment I can share: we were at Target shopping and my 2yo got into my purse while we weren't looking and yeeted our entire cash deposit, about $600, that we were about to make while no one was looking. Money that we needed to pay for the mortgage, bills, etc. I went to pay at the register and realized my purse had been rearranged and that the cash was gone. I waited for the panic to burst out of me, they didn't come. I waited for large and loud feelings of victimization and fear. They didn't come. I then realized a few things:

1. I probably owe some kind of financial amends or have karma that needs to be repaid, and I am 💯% ok with that. My number one job is to grow and be introspective, not cling to the relief that 600$ would bring.

2. I help people and their animals! If nothing else, the work I did grooming helped maintain animals' comfort and well-being. I am an artist in my grooming, photography, and body work. That is what I do for a living!

3. The work i have done spiritually and through working a solid program in recovery has brought me serenity, beauty, and joy in places i would have never expected. And it has grown me up and given me love of self. I trust me and am my biggest champion. If the price of feeling this instead of panic was $600, then it was money well spent.

Ps. That image with the home for sale is our neighbors who really didn't like us. They moved out 🥹 🙌 now I'm manifesting the right folks in!

5 years today off cigs (including va**ng)!! It was the drug I never imagined being able to fully quit but when I was finally ready I was able to put it down and im so grateful I did. It was always on my reservations list as this thing I could always fall back on but the further away from them I get the more I know I did the right thing. The first pic i was still in my active addiction (to many things) and using. And the second pic was nye this year where we danced and sang and had a good, clean BLAST! I changed my like 15 years ago when I chose myself over substances but 5 years ago I sealed the deal taking away that last crutch.

And a pretty good discount if you receive medi-cal? I am beyond grateful for these programs. And our sons get the gift of learning, growing, and exploring here! Not only that but the will be coming through to Windsor soon and so we can take the Smart Train ‼️the train also offers a discount to folks in the above-mentioned programs and you can bring a bike too to go further away from stops. Sonoma County is quite the gift 🎁

This song is my favorite Christmas song, the Sinatra version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". This version quiets me and gets me feeling in the spirit every year. We wish you all a deep and gratitude filled holiday if you celebrate it tomorrow ❤️🎄❤️ I'm a true believer that you are what makes holidays special. I put ALOT of Iove, time, effort, and care into creating the traditions and moments i want to remember and im so grateful for my past self for going through the work to get our family to this part.

Finally finished cookies for this year! 5 different kinds of beloved family treats and secrets expressed in dessert form 😋

I feel this great need to do this baking every year. I love the tradition of making these treats because I can feel my long passed relatives and family still here in every step. I know I'm creating things that my parents and kids look forward to every year. I want to carry on the tradition so that I can pass it on to my kids some day if they ever want to learn, or just give them the annual joy of these treats. Each is a sincere labor of love ❤️

1. Dad's famous sugar cookies (to be baked and then frosted while watching our favorite Christmas movie SNDNP2 🗑 🪓 🎅 )
2. Struffoli (Italian treat with little citrus dough balls fried and then lavished in honey and sprinkles. We prepare those now to be eaten on christmas eve)
3. Almond Biscotti (unfortunately, no after pic, but these are going to rock in some coffee)
4. Italian nona cookies (remind me of my nona every time I make them. They are great lil coffee cookies, too ☕️)
5. And Pizzella cookies (look like fancy doilies, also great Italian coffee cookies)

Join My Journey

“A chronicle of addiction, recovery, and all I created once I learned to love myself.” The mission statement concerning my personal journey before and after addiction. I started the blog at ColiesCreations.com for myself as a space to be honest and vulnerable about how I got myself into addiction and how I got out. But the story really continues afterwards. Once an addict gets clean they aren't magically healed, there is work to be done and real measurable growth that can open previously shut doors.

My journey has led me to new places too in the form of photo restoration, photo editing, photography and much more. Also new life events like marriage and motherhood. The natural place to take the blog was into these new places, eventually the site will be the host for the business end of my photo editing/restoration/capturing. As for the addiction portion of the site, I want to invite other addicts to share their “experience, strength, and hope” in their journey through addiction and recovery, in time the blog will make that shift.
