PSA: NAVAJO DIVISION OF NATURAL RESOURCES RESPECTFULLY CEASES ACCEPTANCE OF PET FOOD DONATIONS

The Unified Command Team with the Oak Ridge Fire Incident Command Post announces an end to acceptance of pet food donations.

Due to an outpouring of support from the public, various organizations and non-profits, the Division of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Departments and Programs were able to provide immediate needs of pet owners with sheltering, food, veterinary care, and other resources.

DNR has received more than adequate donations, and will proceed with coordinating disbursement of donations among affected chapters to continue to support pets and pet owners affected by the Oak Ridge Fire.

🚨 SUMMER PET SAFETY REMINDER – NAVAJO NATION ANIMAL CONTROL 🚨

Summer means more kids playing outside, families exercising in the evenings, and neighbors enjoying the outdoors. 🏃‍♀️🏀🌞 But it also means increased risk if pets—especially dogs—are not properly monitored or restrained/confined.

🐾 Pet owners, please remember:
➡️ Dogs must not run at large.
➡️ All pets should be confined to your property or safely leashed.
➡️ Unattended animals may pose a danger to children, other pets, livestock or themselves.

🧨 As we celebrate the 4th of July, remember:
🎆 Fireworks and loud noises can frighten pets, causing them to bolt or become aggressive out of fear.
📍 Secure your pets indoors or in a safe area well before dark.
📢 Make sure they have identification or are microchipped.

🔥 The Navajo Nation is currently under Stage II Fire Restrictions — please avoid any activities that may spark a fire or cause harm to your pets and community.

Let’s all do our part to keep our families, communities, and animals safe this summer.

🔥OAK RIDGE FIRE – NAVAJO NATION PET & LIVESTOCK ASSISTANCE🔥

The Division of Natural Resources continues to provide assistance to pet and livestock owners as the Oak Ridge Fire continues on.

DEPARTMENT OF DINE' EDUCATION - WINDOW ROCK, AZ
🚨 Evacuated pet owners with cats, dogs, and other small animals (no reptiles, please) can take shelter at the Department of Diné Education Auditorium, in Window Rock, AZ.
🐕‍🦺 Pet resources and support services are available onsite.
‼️ Pet owners are required to stay with their pets to provide care. Cots and other resources are available for pet owners.
📢 There is still space available for evacuated families and their pet(s).
✅ Currently, there are multiple dogs, several cats, and one goose by the name of "Gus," with their owners, being sheltered at DoDE. Outdoor enclosures as well as kennels are available for use.

🔥OAK RIDGE FIRE – NAVAJO NATION PET & LIVESTOCK SAFETY ALERT🔥

As the Oak Ridge Fire spreads across parts of the Navajo Nation, protect your whole family—including your pets and livestock. Navajo Nation Animal Control continues to collaboratively work with Navajo Nation Departments and Programs, as well as our non-profit partners to provide services and resources to those pet and livestock owners that have been affected.

For those evacuating, please do not leave animals behind or tied up—they cannot escape the danger.

🐾 PET EVACUATION CHECKLIST:
✅ Leash or carrier
✅ Food, water, and bowls
✅ Medications and vaccination records
✅ ID tags and microchip info
✅ A photo of you with your pet

‼️ Please understand DNR Law Enforcement Officers cannot be everywhere at once. If livestock owners choose to board their animals at a site other than Dean C. Jackson Rodeo Arena (Window Rock Fairgrounds), they can do so at their own discretion, risk, and cost.

📢VACCINATION CLINIC: SAWMILL, AZ

On Monday, June 16, a vaccination clinic was conducted at Sawmill Chapter House. Navajo Nation Animal Control was able to issue pet licenses, administer life-saving vaccinations and deworm, and implant microchips to 41 pets!

Thank you to the pet owners in the Sawmill and surrounding communities for being responsible pet owners!
