Navajo Nation Animal Control proudly commends the 25th Navajo Nation Council in recognizing July 22, 2026 as Responsible Pet Ownership Day, during the 2026 Summer Council Session.
Every pet deserves a safe home, proper care, and a family that treats them with compassion, responsibility, and respect. Responsible pet ownership means providing access to food, clean water, adequate shelter, and regular veterinary care, throughout your pet's life.
We encourage every family across the Navajo Nation to take time today to celebrate the special bond we share with our animals by:
πΆ Keeping pets healthy with vaccinations and routine care.
π± Providing fresh food, clean water, and safe shelter.
β€οΈ Spaying or neutering pets to help reduce unwanted litters.
πΎ Keeping pets safe, supervised, and identified.
Together, we can build safer communities and create a brighter future for the animals that enrich our lives every day.

UPDATED: The 25th Navajo Nation Council is proud to announce the 2026 Summer Session, taking place July 20β24, 2026, in Window Rock, Ariz.
The 2026 Summer Session will bring together leadership, community members, and partners to address key priorities while honoring important causes that impact the Navajo Nation.
The Spring Session will begin on Monday, July 20, with Every Child Matters Awareness Walk hosted by the Missing and Murdered DinΓ© Relatives (MMDR) Task Force. Participants are encouraged to wear orange.
The walk will begin at the Navajo Nation Museum and conclude at the Navajo Nation Council Chamber, creating space to raise awareness, support survivors, and stand united to end violence involving children.
In recognition of the Summer Session, the Office of the Speaker has organized a participatory awareness week, encouraging employees and attendees to show their support by wearing designated colors.
On July 19, the 25th Navajo Nation Council will host the 2026 Summer Session Trail Ride; the community is invited to join Council Delegates at the Navajo Nation Fairgrounds to take part in demonstrations, live entertainment, free food, and meet with delegates taking part in the Summer Trail Ride.
