Olivia came in for a kitten wellness care visit to stay on track with her preventive care! Baby animals receive antibodies from their mother's milk to protect them from illness, but this protection only lasts a few weeks. Kitten vaccinations help to keep them protected against harmful diseases after the maternal antibodies wane. ❤

Mondays with Dr. Magnuson!

Our pets often don't let us see that there's a problem until it's causing serious discomfort or pain. Annual preventive care gives us the opportunity to catch and address medical issues in early stages. Thankfully, this cat's mass was removed before it caused any problems! 👍

Pet Dental Health Month isn't just for the dogs (and cats)! It's also important to have your exotic pet's teeth checked. Small herbivores including guinea pigs, rabbits, and chinchillas have teeth which constantly grow, and they are susceptible to some dental health problems.

Without treatment, dental issues can lead to other medical problems, and even medical emergencies.

Let's talk about your pet's dental health at their next visit! Call us to schedule an appointment at 603-898-8982.

If you follow our page, you have surely seen our technician assistant, Ryann, holding a variety of patients. She's a superstar when it comes to holding animals for treatments (and photo ops)!

Ryann recently received Employee of the Year honors by a vote of her peers. Our team expressed their gratitude for Ryann's commitments to teamwork, reliability, skills-improvement, and compassionate care.

Featured with Ryann is Boo, her own Dumbo Rat who was receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Please join us in celebrating Ryann's achievement as 2021 Employee of the Year! 🎉🐶🐱🐭

Mondays with Dr. Magnuson!

When we think of preventive care, we often think of an annual exam, vaccinations, and bloodwork. But preventive care can also include additional diagnostics, such as an echocardiogram, to check for early disease. Diagnostic testing helps us to catch diseases before they cause visible symptoms. When we catch diseases in early stages, we can provide better treatment options and outcomes for your animal family members. ❤

Buddy is a Cavalier King Charles, one of the sweetest, easy-going breeds on the planet! He caught my eye in the exam room because he literally was listening to everything I was saying! His mom said he likes to be part of conversations at home too🤣. Cavaliers are special in that their gene pool has been small so they have some genetic issues that can show up later in life. One of those genetic issues is heart disease. Buddy's mom told me Buddy's father died unexpectedly at age 5. Knowing Cavaliers can have heart disease I recommended a cardiac ultrasound (echocardiogram)with our cardiologist so Buddy's heart can be examined early on to make sure he doesn't have this or if he does, start treatment right away. Heart disease, in many dogs, including Cavaliers, can be managed for a very long time with daily medication. I have had several Cavaliers live very long lives with regulated and monitored heart disease. If your dog is predisposed to heart disease, early intervention with a cardiac ultrasound is very important and may prolong their lives for many years.❤ #cavalierkingcharlesspaniel

As we settle into this new year, it's important to revisit the benefits of wellness care. Bringing your pet to the vet when they are not sick gives us the opportunity to get a baseline understanding of what is normal for your pet. This can be used for comparison and provide useful insight to diagnose them when they are unwell. We may also catch early signs of disease before your pet becomes sick, providing you with the best treatment options and better outcomes.

We also know how unsettling it is when your pet is sick. Knowing that they are in the hands of professionals that you know and trust is invaluable. We welcome you to get to know us. We LOVE to get to know your pets! Give us a call at 603-898-8982.

Mondays with Dr. Magnuson!
We had the pleasure of meeting many new pets in 2021, and we expect that we will see some more of your new babies in the new year! If you have added a pet to your home, now is the time to consider pet insurance. When the unexpected happens, pet insurance gives you peace of mind so you can focus on getting your pet well again.

Happy New Year Poppi! This 3.5 pound Boston Terrier has stolen the hearts of her family and us! What a little love. Have you welcomed a new pet into your household this year? If you have, please please consider pet insurance. Pet insurance is the way to be prepared for life's unexpected pet problems. Every pet owner should get pet insurance if you can not readily come up with 10k for your pet. Pet emergencies are real and if you want to be able to offer your pet all the help you can-get pet insurance. Many companies out there including Embrace, Trupanion, Pumpkin, Nationwide, Fido, are just a few! #petinsurance

-- IMPORTANT COVID UPDATE MESSAGE --

To Our Valued Clients,

Covid-19 is once again spreading quickly in our community and surrounding areas. Here at Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital, we know that you depend on us and we are committed to taking all precautions necessary to keep our doors open to serve you and others in need. We ask that if you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms or if you are positive for Covid-19, that you keep your appointment curbside or consider rescheduling any non-urgent appointments for your pet(s).

We are also asking staff members who feel unwell to remain home and get Covid tested for the safety of other staff and our clients. This means that some days we are short staffed. As a result, your wait time to be seen may be longer than usual. If your pet needs routine care, please consider scheduling your appointment a few weeks out to allow us to accommodate more critical patients at this time.

What to expect during your exam:

- Face Masks are required at ALL TIMES when in the building. It must be a surgical mask or an N95. It needs to cover your nose and tuck under your chin. DO NOT REMOVE THE MASK WHEN IN THE EXAM ROOM (even when you are alone).

- We are limiting our face-to-face time in the exam rooms to under 10 mins. If you feel like you need more time to talk with the doctor, please schedule a telehealth visit. This is a scheduled phone call exam with the doctor.

- We must ask if you or anyone in your home is positive for Covid-19 or has ANY flu-like symptoms, please reschedule your appointment if your pet is not experiencing a life-threatening emergency.

We have put these guidelines in place so we can continue to remain open to serve you in your times of need. The veterinary field is experiencing significant staffing challenges due to the pandemic, and temporary hospital closures have happened at other facilities. We kindly ask for your patience and cooperation so we can continue to help animals in need.

If you have any questions, we’ll be happy to assist.

Checking in with you all as I have admittedly been slacking on posting content lately. The past few weeks I have been very busy with work and developing some fun upcoming projects! For those of you who may not know, I am a full time professional animal trainer and small business owner, primarily working with canines. I absolutely love what I do, and EDCTE is an extension of that. The rats have been getting plenty of love of course, I just haven’t been diligent about getting videos for you all. I promise to get some more posts up this next week! Here’s a cute picture of Loki coming home from the vet today to put a little squish in your newsfeed. I am so grateful to live in such close proximity to an amazing exotic vet (Shoutout to Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital, LLC)! They took excellent care of him today. 💕 📸 Share a picture of your rats in the comments! 🐀 The EDCTE Fancy Rat Guide 🐀 by Seren Maxwell “Improving rats lives through Early Neurological Stimulation, Desensitization, Cooperative Care, Training, and Enrichment.”

You guys, Pav and I had a fantastic check up today at the vet! It’s so wonderful to be able to say that, and I am so proud of him and all the amazing choices he made today! We put all of our husbandry training to good use and Pav was truly remarkable! This is a dog who a few years ago when he first came to live with me was a bucking bronco/ball of extreme anxiety for even the simplest exam. Today, Pav CHOSE to participate in each piece of his wellness exam and vaccinations. We utilized a muzzle while Dr. Dressel examined his ears/eyes which allowed me to be a bit less restrictive with physical restraints without compromising safety. Pav knows his muzzle means cool stuff is about to happen, so he wasn’t worried about it at all. The overall theme during any of our husbandry training sessions or vet visits is consent, and giving your dog the power to make choices. You might just be surprised what a difference the power of choice makes for a dog who might be a little worried about being handled for vet visits/grooming . If vet/grooming visits are challenging for you and your dog, please reach out, I’m here to help! A big shoutout to Dr. Dressel and Carrie at Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital, LLC for your patience and understanding today, we appreciate you! Does your dog wear a muzzle?
