True stuff…

Oscar, a black cat from Jersey, had both hind paws severed in an accident in 2009. He underwent groundbreaking surgery using intraosseous transcutaneous amputation prosthetics (ITAPs, because that was a big ‘ol word salad 😜), a pioneering treatment mimicking antler growth. Oscar became the first animal with two bionic leg implants and paved the way for similar procedures in humans.

Oscar passed away a month ago at age 18. Thanks for being a trendsetter Oscar. 👊🏻

A Cat’s Homage to Dogs (begrudgingly… it’s your day, mutts).

Happy . Yes, yes, we see you with your floppy ears, waggy tails, and your… neediness.

Thanks for chasing the sticks we wouldn’t dare touch, guarding the houses we already own, and slobbering enough to make sure humans never forget to do laundry.

You herd, you fetch, you sniff out lost snacks under the couch. Admirable. Truly.

But let’s be clear: you’re the sidekick, not the main character. Still, we’ll raise a paw in your honor today, because somebody’s got to walk the humans while we nap.

Carry on, canines. You’re doing fine.

Signed,
The Cats (every single one of us).

The Cat Who Danced with Gravity

In a bustling city, rooftops clung together like jagged teeth. There, a sleek black cat called Orbit leapt from eaves and chimneys as if gravity were her partner in a private dance. Neighbors gasped when she fell from a bell tower, only to turn midair and land, tail high, unshaken. They swore she was not bound to earth at all, but chose where to place her paws each time she returned from the sky.

Cat Fact: cats possess a righting reflex, twisting midair to land on their feet from astonishing heights.

The Cat Who Walked Between Worlds

In a northern village, hunters told of a silver cat, Lumen, who appeared on forest paths at night. Her eyes glowed like lanterns, lighting the way through tangled woods. Some said she walked between the world of the living and the world of spirits, guiding lost souls toward the right door. Once, a child returned home at dawn, claiming Lumen had led her out of the forest when she could no longer find the stars.

Cat Fact: cats’ reflective eyes (tapetum lucidum) have long been seen as spirit-lanterns, glowing in the dark.

The Cat Who Stared Holes in Stone

On a hillside temple, a marmalade cat named Solon sat upon the altar steps. Travelers claimed he could bore holes in stone with his eyes, for he stared at the carved lion statues until even birds dared not perch there. Pilgrims said his gaze measured the weight of your soul: if he blinked first, you were pure; if not, you’d best leave an offering. The monks knew only this - no rat ever passed while Solon kept watch.

Cat Fact: cats’ ability to stare for long, unblinking stretches is tied to their hunting patience and dominance displays.

The Cat Who Sang Without a Voice

In a quiet village, two toms faced each other in the moonlight. The people heard only silence, but the cats’ whiskers quivered, tails flicked, and throats pulsed with soundless songs. Farmers swore their barns held no mice after such duels, as if the unseen music had banished pests. They said the cats sang spells too low for men, and if you stood very still, you might feel the song hum in your bones.

Cat Fact: cats can produce sounds beyond human hearing; low rumbles and high pitches used to communicate with other cats.

The Cat Who Borrowed Nine Lives

In an old port town, sailors spoke of a calico named Tiller who leapt from riggings and rooftops, only to land lightly and trot away. “She borrows her lives from the wind,” they said, “and when she spends one, another appears.” A boy once asked how many lives she had left. The captain smiled. “As many as the sea will give her. She just knows how to fall without drowning.”

Cat Fact: a cat’s flexible spine and balance-giving tail help it survive falls that would injure most animals.

The Cat Who Chased the Sunbeam

In an ancient manor, Lady Aurelia’s cat, Sol, seemed always to vanish and reappear in a beam of golden light…on the staircase at dawn, in the gallery at noon, and in the study at dusk. Servants whispered he was chasing the sun itself, keeping it tethered to the earth. They dared not disturb him, lest darkness fall too soon. In truth, Sol was only obeying the oldest feline instinct: to sleep where the sun feels sweetest.

Cat Fact of the Day: Cats can sleep 16–20 hours a day, adjusting their rest to match the sun’s warmth.

The Cat Who Stole Thunder

A traveling peddler once had a black cat, Bristle, who slept atop his wagon. When children reached to pet her, they yelped, getting popped with tiny sparks snapping from her fur. The villagers gasped and said she had bottled the sky’s lightning, saving them from storms. They welcomed the peddler each year, believing Bristle’s sparks kept thunder at bay. Only later did scholars explain the truth: dry air, wool blankets, and the perfect conductor…a cat.

Cat Fact of the Day: A cat’s fur can build up static electricity in dry air, making it crackle when touched.

The Fisher of Silence

On a quiet riverbank, an old fisherman swore he never fished alone. His calico, Minnow, sat beside him, ears swiveling like twin weather vanes. When she froze, ears pricked, he knew fish were breaking the surface. He’d cast his line right where her ears pointed. The villagers laughed until they noticed his catch buckets never went empty. “He listens to the fish,” they whispered. But the truth was simpler: Minnow’s ears caught the faintest splashes no human could ever hear.

Cat of the Day: Cats can rotate their ears 180°, independently of one another, to pinpoint sounds.

See y’all in December!

The Ghost in the Library
In an old European library, a black cat named Quill always perched near the elderly archivist, who had broken ribs from a recent fall. Weeks passed, and while doctors predicted a slow recovery, the man healed astonishingly fast. Rumors spread of a ghostly presence aiding him. But the secret was Quill, purring at his side every evening, wrapping his ribs in invisible vibrations that knitted bone faster than any tincture. From then on, scholars swore the cat’s purr carried forgotten medicine.

Cat Fact…
Cats’ purring occurs between 25 to 150 Hz, a frequency range that can promote bone healing and tissue repair.
