It's Animal Poison Prevention Week! The second most common pet poison exposure is from human food and drinks, and chocolate. Things like grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, xylitol, protein drinks and bars, macadamia nuts, raw yeast dough, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks are all dangerous to your pets. Chocolate is an especially common and dangerous toxicity for your pets.
Look out for things like vomiting and diarrhea, restlessness, increased thirst, rapid breathing and increased heart rate, muscle tremors, and seizures.
Please be careful to not leave food or drinks lying around, be mindful of keeping the garbage can closed, and secure foods in the pantry or fridge. Do not feed your pet table scraps, and keep nosy pets away from the kitchen or dining area when eating or cooking.
