Confidence is built in the in-between moments.

This is Ebony, our 3-year-old AQHA sales mare, and today’s confidence-builder came in the form of following the arena drag.

It wasn’t a planned obstacle.
It wasn’t part of a structured drill.
It was just an opportunity… and she was ready for it.

She stayed soft, stayed with me, and followed right along without hesitation. That’s the kind of trust and willingness we’re proud to develop in our young horses.

Because when a horse learns to think through new situations they become the kind of partner anyone would want to ride.

Ebony’s showing us that she’s well on her way.

A freshly drug arena doesn’t mean the work is done.
It just means we’re ready for what comes next.
Whether it’s a c**t learning how to move off a feel… or a seasoned horse fine-tuning transitions… it all starts with someone showing up.

Training takes consistency. Not just in the horse, but in the human.

"The next generation is looking GOOD."

These are the weanlings down at Terry Adams Quarter Horses our trusted partner who raises them right from the start.

They’ve just been weaned and they’re already looking sharp, confident, and ready for the road ahead. These are the kind of c**ts we love bringing into our sales program! Good-minded, well-bred, and raised out on pasture with strong mares and strong foundations.

We’re so excited for them to make their way to us soon.
Keep an eye out, our next round of sales prospects is coming together, and it’s going to be a really special group.

👀 Got your eye on one already?

Patterns can feel overwhelming at times, but breaking them down into smaller parts makes all the difference. In this video, we’re focusing on a backing obstacle through cones, sent to us by a friend and client. Take it one step at a time, stay focused, smooth, and build confidence!

"Let’s talk groundwork…"

What’s one thing your horse does on the ground that you’re especially thankful for?

Maybe they stand perfectly for grooming.
Maybe they back up with just a feel.
Maybe they simply stay with you, even when there’s chaos around.

Now flip it…

What’s one thing you wish your horse did better on the ground?

I’d love to know where you’re at, what’s working, what you’re working on, and what’s still a little frustrating. It helps me keep building content (and horses!) that serve real needs.

Some nights, the sky just stops you.

No words needed. Just a moment of quiet, beauty, and gratitude.

This place… these horses… this life.
We thank God every day for all of it.

If they’re not with me on the ground…
I don’t expect them to be with me under saddle.

Before I ever swing a leg over, I’m checking a few key things:

✔️ Are they listening to me?
✔️ Are they focused on me?
✔️ Are they being respectful of my space?

And I can get those answers before we ever step into the arena. When I’m catching them, leading them in, tying, brushing, saddling, and walking them up to tighten the cinch.

If at any point they’re pushy, distracted, or fidgety?
That’s a red flag and a chance to slow down and do a little groundwork to reset the tone.

Because getting on a horse that’s already mentally checked out or disrespectful…
That’s not “just a little quirk.” That’s a setup for failure.

Take the time. Pay attention.
It’s not about controlling them, it’s about setting yourself up to communicate clearly and stay safe.

"It’s not about the trailer. Or the tarp. Or the flag."

It’s about how the horse thinks through those things.

We use obstacles like the trailer, bridge, flag, or “green man” not to desensitize our c**ts into ignoring pressure, but to help them learn how to process it.

Can they stay soft?
Can they stay connected to the rider?
Can they think their way through it, rather than react?

That’s what we’re building.

Because whether it’s a show arena, a trailhead, or a vet visit… they’re going to face pressure. We want them to handle it, not hide from it.

What is one obstacle you have worked on to help build your relationship with your horse?
