Hello all! It's been a bit since my last post with a BUSY summer! Here are some important tips for winter:
1) Stay on Schedule! Don't let bad weather become a barrier for your barn pal's comfort and health. Stay in communication with your farrier regarding bad weather.
2) Keep it Clean! Be sure to remove old fencing and prep your winter yard for the winter. Look for protruding nails, overturned rocks, or loose items that may be a danger.
3) According to the Farmers Almanac, this will be an icy winter. It's important to watch for snow pack on your horses feet (just like the sticky snow builds up on our boots!), especially if they are wearing shoes. There are ways to prevent this issue, so reach out BEFOREHAND!
4) Did you know: sand can cause colic. Use shavings or kitty litter in icy paddocks.
5) Blankets are great! Unless they don't fit. Make sure your horses winter clothes are snug. Loose jackets or over long straps can cause more damage than they help.
6) When riding in the winter be cautious. You should be just as wary on a horse as in your car. Icy and frozen ground can hurt both you and your animal, so be cautious when getting your exercise in!
I look forward to helping keep both you and your family members 🐴 safe this winter! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! We are offering extended sessions to diagnosis potential dangers in your winter home ❤️
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
