“ Did you know that For the Love of Dog LLC works a lot with rescues to help rescue dogs? One of the ways we do this is by providing housing at discounted costs for homeless dogs waiting for a foster or adopter.

Oprah found herself homeless at the shelter with a bunch of puppies. All her puppies have been placed safely into rescue, but Oprah has found herself still at the shelter and vulnerable.

When you are a dog at a shelter, your chances of being adopted are directly related to the way you look and your behavior in the kennel. Oprah has the looks but she struggles to perform behaviors that potential adopters like.

Oprah has not had a good life. She is fearful of humans. When she is in a kennel and cannot get away from the stranger, she chooses to try and scare them away with threat displays. This makes her look like a bad dog and increases her length of stay at the shelter.

For the Love of Dog took her and seven other dogs last week to help the shelter beat the heat in their kennels. Since having her at our kennel, we have not seen any threat displays from her (we don't have the public coming in, just 3 staff here) and we have seen her thrive with other dogs in our playgroups.

Returning Oprah to the kennel would have been very sad for Oprah and the kennel staff that care for her. We can keep Oprah from coming back, but we can't do it for free. We already have NINE foster dogs here. We have to at least cover our boarding expenses to keep Oprah here and give her a chance.

So, Oprah and us need your help. We need at least 2 months of boarding for Oprah to give her time to find a home. The expense of boarding a dog for one night is $10. We need $600 for Oprah to help the shelter, help her.
