Every week this month we will be introducing one of our Board of Director members.

We have a team of volunteers as our Board of Directors. These dedicated ladies guide our vision, as well as oversee our finances to ensure our resources are used effectively. The health and safety of our rescued horses will always be number one. These women have a wide assortment of professional backgrounds and talents but they share the same commitment to equine welfare. They will lead Cruz Equine Acres and our mission of rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming.

This week meet Madeline Hitzel - Board Secretary.

Maddie started her horse journey at the age of 4 when she began riding Western. She moved on to English as years passed. In adulthood she has been focused on her hair stylist career at Birdhouse Beauty, (Lockport, NY) newly married life with her husband Nate, and caring for her house pets: Reika, Champ, Nathaniel, and Whiskey. She is eager to get back into the horse world and maybe someday have her very own Friesan (one of her favorite breeds). Maddie is a true animal lover and an excellent addition to the board.

Please welcome Maddie.

Cruz Equine Acres would like to share some difficult news with our followers.

Following a consultation with the building inspector, we have been informed that Wilson, New York, where our property is situated, does not allow the placement of a brand new double wide manufactured home on a foundation. This update is inconsistent with our initial understanding that it was acceptable, provided it met New York State approval standards. This understanding led to our purchase of the 45-acre property. However, this new information has significantly impacted our plans and aspirations for the rescue center in Wilson, NY.

Consequently, we have made the decision to sell the property. Additionally, the cost of constructing a new house or modular home, would set us back an additional $150,000 just for a crawl space foundation, that would divert funds from building the rescue barn.

We are currently searching for alternative locations featuring an existing home, land, and barns. This setback has been substantial for us, as we have faced numerous challenges for several months, including the loss of Cruz. I am confident that we will find an even better location. In the meantime you can still follow Wrigley and Comet's adventures here.

Once our barn is completed (end of Sept, we hope) we will be looking for someone to help us by stopping in several times a week to check up on the horses, pasture, spend evening time with them, etc. Willing to exchange free board, hay with the right knowledge person.

Located in Wilson NY on 425 and Braley Rd.

Send message if interested.

I will miss this guy-- his hungry lunch nickers, his love of extreme closeups, scratching his face and watching him relax, his disregard for personal space, fixing all of his booboos, his droopy pink lips and old man whiskers.

You were so loved.

I will give Comet extra attention since you were always attached to his hip. He is going to miss you too.

Today marks a somber moment for Cruz Equine Acres, as we mourn the loss of our beloved Cruz, who passed away peacefully this evening, surrounded by his family. He initially joined our family as a companion horse from a bailout and quickly captured the hearts of many nationwide. Although the veterinarian was unable to attend to him prior to his passing, he was comforted by the presence of his loved ones as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His remains will be cremated at Cornell, and his ashes will be returned to us. Cruz served as the inspiration behind the establishment of Cruz Equine Acres Horse Rescue. RIP our sweet boy.

Miss Scarlett enjoyed her first horseback ride today. Only 23 months old. Watch out for this future equine rider.
