Say hello to our new furbaby, Merlin (aka Merle). He is a little over a year old and is still a little skittish towards new people, but he is settling in at home and getting to know his new siblings. He’s very playful, gives lots of kisses, romps around the yard, and has a collection of carefully stolen socks. Merlin didn’t come from the best situation and God put him on our hearts in the midst of missing our best friend Sweetums every day. Somehow, God always knows best, blesses us with what we would least expect, and walks with us through the things that hurt most.

Merlin’s name is very special. We couldn’t decide on a name for him for several days because nothing quite felt right. Then we picked the perfect one, it was right there along. Sweetums original name given by his breeder was Merlin. Obviously we changed it (a few times 🙃) over the years, but it just felt like God already knew, long before I did, what was to come. With his speckled face and old soul, Merlin just fit. While it makes me equally sad and happy right now because of how deeply I miss him, it also fills my heart to know that I will be sharing a piece of Sweetums through him every day ❤️

Yesterday morning, my soul dog and best friend of almost 16 years went to be in Heaven. We did everything we could to keep you here with us and you held on as long as you could. Thank you for staying with us until the last possible moment. I still feel like you will be outside in the yard or laying in the bed or sitting next to me and when I realize you aren't it hurts all over again. You had the best life a dog could ever have and made mine feel complete.I'm so glad this past week you were able to get your favorite ice cream, play with your best friend Henry, lay with me listening to your favorite smooth jazz, and have one last beautiful car ride in your bed in front of your max mega winds. I love you forever, Sweetums.
