Update on Moose 🐾
Had a visit yesterday with and wanted to share what’s going on. Moose has been dealing with more hind-end weakness this past week - Monday was rough, but he’s bounced back a bit since then. He’s able to do short walks with his harness and can climb our front stairs with some help from me. His left back leg drags his toes a little, which is nerve-related.
Yesterday, he got electroacupuncture to help with his nerves and mobility, and we added a couple new supplements to his routine. The good news is he’s not in pain and still his happy, goofy self.
For dogs with degenerative myelopathy, keeping them moving is so important. Even though it might seem counterintuitive, regular assisted activity helps maintain muscle strength, supports nerve function, and keeps their body engaged. We’re doing short supported walks every day with his Help ‘Em Up harness - it’s not about distance, it’s about keeping those neural pathways active and his muscles working.
We’re also making sure he has good traction around the house and taking things day by day, focusing on keeping him comfortable, active, and happy.
Thanks to everyone who checks in on us! 🫶🏻
