Meet Shana

Shana Altschuler’s love for horses began at the age of five. It was then that she asked her mother for riding lessons and her lifelong passion began. At the age of twelve, Shana began riding with Harry DeLeyer in East Hampton, New York where she helped break and train young horses and had the opportunity to participate in many hunter/jumper shows on the A circuit. After high school, Sh

ana attended Skidmore College where she rode on the Equestrian Team. Shana helped led the team to National Championships in 1993 and 1995 and also won the Individual Intermediate Over Fences National Championship in 1993. After College, Shana took a job at Sag Pond Farm (now Wolffer Estate Stables) in Bridgehampton, New York where she trained young horses and young riders. During this time, she travelled on the A horse show circuit and also helped manage a barn of sixty plus show horses and ponies. At Sag Pond, Shana had the opportunity to train with some of the best show jumpers in the world, including Tim Grubb and Joe Fargis. In 1999, Shana briefly left the world of horses to attend law school in New York City and subsequently practiced in the field of corporate litigation before leaving the profession to have children. Shana now lives in Wilmington, Delaware with her husband and three young children and has returned to her true passion in life, horses.

Highlights include: Shana and Valegro DH Z - 7th $25k Grand Prix ▫️ Reagan Waggoner and Upswing High Point National Derby Combination ▫️ Ariana Altschuler and Coolio 28 Champion Large Pony Hunters ▫️ Juliann Green and Cool Champ 4th 2’6” Derby ▫️ Ashley Schlobach and Take Five 6th 2’6” Derby ▫️Shana and Coco Chanel 3rd Pro Derby ▫️Hannah Jackman and Endless Options take home great ribbons in a huge division ▫️Stella Bjork and BGS Bright Spark move up to the .90cm and win a class ▫️ Emily Rohrbacher successfully moved up to the 3’ equitation▫️ Cady Buonocore and Wind in the Willows get great ribbons at their first A show!

Local barns and trainers. Was thinking of putting together a weekend (possibly end of May) where we could combine a tack sale and sale horses. Trainers and/or clients could bring tack they want to sell (or trade) and we can also have a showcase where people can bring their sale horses to be shown and tried. We would have time slots for different types of horses (for example 10am -12pm 2’6-3 foot hunters 12pm-2pm 1.0-1.20 jumpers) and buyers could come preview and try them onsite. Would that be something people might be interested in doing? I am located in Wilmington Delaware.

Our winter warriors braved the cold this weekend at Swan Lake. Stella Bjork had a great first show on her new horse BGS Bright Spark and was champion in the .80m jumpers. Hannah Jackman was reserve champion in the Low Children’s Hunters on Endless Options and Juliann Green was 2nd in the combined Low Child/Adult Classic on Ashley Schlobach’s Cool Champ. Congratulations everyone!
