1. Please tell me everything you know about them.

2. Have you ever met a Clumber spaniel? If so when and how long did you spend with them? Please keep in mind that most of our Clumbers come from puppy mills. We have reference letters families who’ve adopted and these letters are a great indication that some (not all) of our rescues will take a little work but they are so worth it.

3. What type Clumber spaniel are you looking for: Male or Female (and indicate why)

4. Have you ever had pets before? If yes, what kind and what happened to the pets you previously owned?

5. Have you ever given up a pet voluntarily? Have you ever been in a court situation regarding your pet? If so, please explain.

7. Do you currently have other pets? What kind and how many?

8. What are your pets ages and s*x? Are they spayed/neutered? Please list each one separately and describe (in detail, their personalities, likes, dislikes, etc).

9. How are your pets with other dogs and new visitors? Does the county/city you live in have a pet limit?

10. Are there children in your household? Please include grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc who may visit and please list their ages?

11. Do your children and/or pets have a lot of exposure to other animals? Do your dogs go places with you? If you have family members and/or friends who visit with dogs, please describe in detail their personalities and what s*x they are.

12. How busy is your household? Describe a typical day in your household.

13. Do you travel frequently? Will your Clumber accompany you and if not, who will take care of him/her?

14. Do you own or rent your home? Do you live in an apartment, single-family house, condo, on a farm, etc? Please state whether or not you live within the city limits, out in the country, housing development, private lot, etc.

15. Do you have a fenced in yard? If so, how high is it? Please attach pictures and describe in detail. If you don’t have a fenced in yard, how do you plan on exercising your Clumber? Does your county/city have a leash law?

16. Are you willing to crate your Clumber (if need be) for short periods? Will you keep your Clumber crated during the work day if no one is at home? If so how many hours will he or she be crated?

17. Where will the Clumber sleep?

18. How much time will the Clumber spend alone?

19. What type dog food do you feed your dogs?

20. What heartworm prevention do you use or used?

21. What flea preventative do you use or used?

22. Is there an activity you’d like most to pursue with a Clumber (i.e., hunting, tracking, agility, obedience or therapy work)? Please keep in mind that many of these dogs were abused and MOST were neglected so to expect them all to succeed at certain tasks are not reasonable (knowing what your interests will help me decide who might work).

23. Would you be willing to have a home visit? Does your spouse or other live in adults agree to this adoption? Does anyone in your family have allergies? If so, please explain.

24. If you adopt a Clumber what type of training methods will you use? What type discipline?

25. What would be a deal breaker with a Clumber? (i.e., excessive barking, excessive timidness, pees when excited, has to be fed in crate because they are food aggressive, can't have toys as they are toy aggressive, can't have bedding as they are chewers, has to be crated when unattended because they are chewers, not too keen on being groomed, having feet and/or ears handled). Please list any others that you are not willing to deal with.

26. What are your expectations in regards to the grooming requirements of a Clumber? Are you aware of the heavy shedding? Feet needs?

27. Are you aware of the health issues common in Clumber Spaniels?

28. In regards to patience, please rate yours and your spouse or significant other on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.

29. Are you willing to give a rescue 6 or more months to settle in and be comfortable? Some rescues will take longer than others to trust and settle in and it is very important that the new families are aware of this when adopting a puppy mill dog. The Clumbers do not come from family environments but come from people who never touched them, they lived in chicken coops, or in cages, or in metal buildings with very little contact with humans. I will be upfront regarding each and every rescue and in return I ask that my applicants do the same as this will make adopting a rescue a lot less stressful on everyone.

30. Do you have a regular vet? Please provide name, address, and phone number. Please notify your vet and let them know that I will be calling and give them permission so that they may talk to me. How long have you used them? If less than five years list previous vet used.

31. Please provide three personal references and phone numbers of someone who has known you at least five years (we will be checking personal references).

1.
2.
3.

32. Please share your thoughts on co-ownership and what it means to you as all Clumbers adopted will be co-owned by me and a contract will be signed. If for ANY reason you decide that you can't keep the Clumber, you HAVE to return him/her to CLUMBER SPANIEL RESCUES. You CANNOT take the Clumber to a shelter or re-home.

33. Please list any questions and/or concerns you may have and include any other information that you feel might help me when deciding if I have the right Clumber for you.

Today is a day worth celebrating.
Makana, Billy, Michael, Wallace, and Schmitty are three years old.

Three years ago, their story began in a place no animal should ever have to endure — a puppymill. Their first days were filled with filthy conditions, but their journey since then has been nothing short of extraordinary.

With love, patience, and the gentle hands of their families, they have grown into healthy, wonderful dogs who know what it means to be cherished.

Michael, who is PDP1 AFFECTED continues to show us the very essence of resilience. Against all odds, he is not only surviving but thriving, a reminder that hope and love can transform even the hardest beginnings.

Today we honor not just their birthdays, but the strength of their spirits, the healing power of love, and the bright future that lies ahead for each of them. From the darkest of places, these five lives have become a testament to courage, kindness, and the beauty of second chances.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Louie
June 25, 2012 - June 20, 2024
Just a week shy of his 13th birthday.
That is 91 years old in our lives.

Louie was the happiest boy clear up to the end when he was eating chocolate starlight cookies. (He did not want the vanilla cookies with sprinkles on them:)

He has gone to find Jimmy, Rosie, Henry, Brody, Toonie, Jaager, and all of the other Clumbers that he has helped teach that life is good and that they also could be safe.

Louie was always that rock for any rescue that came into my home that needed our help.

As a good friend told me, they are never really ours, they are just lent to us for a time.

I am sure that he is swimming in a pond somewhere in heaven.

We will never stop educating others about puppyMills. Ever.

He is whole now.

Hug your babies tight and kiss them.

Heaven gained my angel.

Louie I will miss you forever. I love you. 💕

Here’s LOUIE! It’s been a while since I have shared photos of Louie. He is 12 years old, and 8 months!!
This past weekend he took a car ride to go see his most favorite groomer, Sammi Shafer
for a bubble bath and a trim.

Louie is doing very well for his age. A couple meds have been added into his meals for joint pain and mobility issues. Eye drops are something that we do a couple-3x a day to help with his dry eyes.
He still enjoys a good bone or cleaning off my dinner plates. Who says he can’t do that! ❤️
I love my boy Louie to pieces.
