The exhaustion of being a breeder and sometimes emotional toll. My sweet girl Freyja. She had 4 kittens with 1 survivor. Herman was born tiny and I have had to lay there putting to ni**le and tube feed kitten every 2-3 hrs. Thankfully Herman is gaining weight and muscle mass. The importance of teaching in conjunction with tube feeding is vital to build hind leg muscles to be more independent. The first born, tuxedo girl I prayed for. Freyja had labor without me. Chewed cord to stomach and killed the kitten. Traumatic to see. 2nd one, Herman I helped cut the cord for safety. 3rd one was stillborn. Then she had interrupted labor. My intuition is always right and I could sense there was one more. Xray confirmed. Next day we did ultrasound and it showed heartbeat. Kitten was very high up which reduce likelihood kitten will come out. After settling for several hours and a low dose 0.2ml oxytocin shot. Kitten came out breeched. Was largest kitten I’ve ever delivered. Very stuck. Sac broke inside the canal and all I can assume is kitten suffocated. Zero movement. With every contraction I had to help pull. Was very scary and traumatic I’m sure for Freyja, as again this kitten was huge. I only paired for 48 hrs. Freyja is very stable but sometimes one kitten isn’t enough to trigger maternal bond. All I can do is be hopeful. Some people think this is all about money. With vet care, raising queen, echocardiogram, genetic test, labor vet visits, and currently 7 days off of work. I will 100% lose money on this litter and be in the red even if Herman survives and is rehomed. Witnessing death can bring you to dark place emotionally. I’ve never experienced this before. Sometimes it is normal to lose one kitten but 3? It was a lot to witness and process. As I’m sure it was emotionally stressful for Freyja to have all 3 taken away after such hard work she provided. I’m just grateful she didn’t need surgery 🫶🏻

Soon my baby, will have babies. Cozy birthing pen set up for her and floor mat mattress, as I sleep in the same room with queens until a couple days after labor. Still need to set up birthing box but comfy bed with blanket will suffice for now ✨

As I step back into the show world (cat fancy), something I’ve always been passionate about since my time with American Kennel Club as a junior handler and equestrian competitions. I’ve made the decision I miss this aspect in life and sadly that brings forth the decision to start phasing out Bambinos from my program. This decision has brought tears and has been analyzed with depth.

While I love their personalities and uniqueness, Bambinos are not eligible for championship status within The International Cat Association and remain experimental with no clear path forward being recognized outside of this. As I refocus on showing and building a line with champion titles, it’s important my program aligns with that goal completely with no blurred lines and since all my cats are raised in home, space is limited. Keeping back next generations or outsourcing to bring in new bloodlines is a carefully thought out process.

With all this said, I will not be holding back any Bambino offspring or adding new Bambino queens moving forward. This will be a gradual transition, as all of my cats are raised in-home and will continue to be placed thoughtfully and responsibly. We also will be keeping some of our bambino queens as forever pets.

Health and structure has always been my priority. I’ve adhered to the munchkin standard (which is eligible for championship) to have bambino’s with straight boning in front legs and never bambino to bambino pairing. My bambino’s can still jump up high, like their sphynx “siblings”. I strongly stand against the growing trend of “Bully” cats and breeding for exaggerated, debilitating traits, especially the push for ultra short bowed legs in Bambinos. My goal with my program has been from the start to breed further away from this trend to uplift those in admiration of the breed, so they can have a bambino with correctness. I still feel a sense of purpose to be the difference with this program but at the same time it feels like a dead end.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me. I’m excited for what’s ahead 🤍 as mentioned, this will not be effective immediately, as some of my queens are still young, and those who’ve joined the waitlist for a bambino will still have the opportunity to share the passion for them.

P.S. I wrote this and not ChatGPT 😂😝
