Tis the season. Toxic "treats"🤦‍♀️ are showing up as quickly as the holiday decor does this time of year.
Many of these so called treats end up hurting dogs- or worse.
The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from overseas.
The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.
If that wasn`t bad enough they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog 😞
Instead opt for natural treats like carrots. There are many better options. 🐶 [consult with your vet].

It's with a very sad heart that we say goodbye to very special woman. Ms Peggy Trainor lost her fight after 3 weeks with this virus. She has been a loyal customer and friend to Islands Pet Centre for many years. She will be missed by all of us. RIP. Ms Trainor. Take your place in heaven. ( P.S.none of our staff has been exposed)

I didn't think I would have to say this. But please dont come and tap on our window. Because our lobby is closed. It disturbs the dogs. And takes our attention away from them. This is when accidents can happen. I dont want to explain to someone that their dog was injured . Because someone is impatient. Thank you. We are doing our best to do what we can do. In this pandemic. And have lots of senior and immune compromised clients. We take their safety and our own seriously.

We have decided to postpone Sundays Adoption event. It would be totally irresponsible of us to ask people to come out right now. We are open for business as long as it is safe for us to do so. We are taking extra precautions. And bleaching the shop and common areas every night. If you have to cancel we totally understand. And beg you to be mindful of other customers if you are not feeling well. Please keep in mind that people are now surrendering their pets. More then usual. And our local humane society , rescues and animal control are over already overwhelmed. And can use your support in these times too. Thank You. And everyone and their pets. Please stay safe. And healthy too.
