It’s that time of year again. Mark and I are preparing the baskets for our annual ‘Flowers on the Bridge’ project. We have had great luck and beauty with our ‘project’ with the exception of someone vandalized them last year but luckily we were able to salvage what was left. We will post pictures of that meanness in a comment to this post. Check back soon.
For those not familiar with our project here are the basics.
1) We took this on as a ‘personal project’ after hearing that our GREAT Beautician Committee gave up on trying to keep flowers on the bridge because of a) Big commitment to water because the wind on the bridge drys them out so quickly and b) They had several hits of vandalism. All completely understandable.
2) We are not part of, affiliated with, or financially supported by the Town of Willsboro or any committees there of.
3) We have not, do not and will not ask the; public, the Beautification Committee or the Town for financial assistance in any way shape or form. This ‘project’ is financially supported by ourselves and private (unsolicited) donations. We currently have $6.08 in the Willsboro Chamber of Commerce account.
4) We initially purchased 10 planters but We will be adding 2 more this year for a more even / balanced look. Being a State road, Mark ofcourse has secured the necessary permit/s to hang the planters.
5) We still have a couple bags of potting soil left from last year. We did NOT start seeds this year so we will be purchasing all of the flowers.
5) Our goal is to have the planters up by Memorial Day weekend. Once in place the challenge begins! They must be watered EVERY day regardless of the rain (the rain won’t pe*****te the thick foliage).
6) In closing, and because I will be hit with these questions as soon I post this. First and foremost again, this is a totally volunteer project. Me and or my DBA Willsboro Community Chamber of Commerce is NOT registered as a nonprofit but is again, a totally volunteer group of do-gooders.
We do NOT directly solicit or ask for donations, BUT…..
