In honor of World Donkey Day, I thought it might be time to formally introduce the newest members of our Silvermist herd - Rachel and Ruth!

These are two very special names here at Silvermist. As we were trying to figure out names "big" enough for these two characters, we just kept calling them The Girls. I realized that back before I had two daughters of my own, if anyone was talking about The Girls, they meant my great-grandmother Ruth and her sister, Rachel. The two of them were larger than life, as spunky as anyone I've ever met. I can't think of better names for my sweet mini girls.

These two sweet girls are registered Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys all the way from Texas. They’re so tiny we had to turn the fence panels upside down to sit closer to the ground 🙃

Next up for introduction is Allie, better known around here as "Mama Allie" because she is the best mama around. She is a beautiful deep red, a poster child for the Scottish Highland breed.

We kept back her last 2 calves, MJ and Al, who are both just as sweet as their mom. The bad news is that means we have to part with this year's calf, Timothy 😢 If you're looking for a small-framed Highland bull, check him out!

We thought it was time to start introducing our fold, so here's Ms. Mary Jane (M.J. for short)! She is a beautiful dun colored girl who is bossy in the herd but a great mama and sweet to us humans.

She had her first calf last fall, a petite dun heifer we call Elizabeth (she'll get her own intro post soon since we are keeping her back for our breeding program).
