ARRR Rescue and Retirement Ranch Inc., 501-c3 Non Profit Welcome to our ranch! This former cattle ranch and wheat farm has transitioned into a sanctuary for rescued and retired farm animals of all types. EIN #47-1186873

Farm Animal Sanctuary and Cat Adoptions - Message ARRR for an Adoption Application- Open by Appointment Only- (We aren't set up to take in dogs; try The Stray Sanctuary.) We have a pirate theme, even though we are located on the prairie, because the ranch owner is a descendant of a famous pirate and because he worked on a ship for a short while and loved the experience. Sail along with us on this

journey, one which we have dreamed of for years. The ranch is owned by a landlocked pirate and his wife but we couldn't do it without our Crew! ARRR's First Mate (aka- ranch foreman) is Mark. His dedication means everything, especially considering the hot summer months when the work days are long and hectic, followed by the long winter months which are not only a bit dull but can be extremely cold. Each crew member, Mark, Kristi, Cynthia, Kristina, Kara, Jana-Lee and Rachel, is extremely important because they determine the quality of residents lives. ARRR is fortunate enough to have occasional volunteers as well! They provide a little extra TLC. Our Board of Directors: Flint Bibler, Kjersti Eide, Patty Fitterer and Jennifer Eide Bibler

ARRR residents include 32 equine (16 horses, 8 mini horses, 3 donkeys, 1 mule, and 4 ponies), 4 roosters, 5 ducks, 3 sheep, 5 goats, 7 potbelly pigs, 3 hogs, 2 cows and a around 80 cats (this number changes as we take cats in and adopt them out) as of February 2023. The number of animals we take in will remain small so that we can focus on quality care. As with any journey into the unknown, we sometimes experience rough seas and sometimes smooth sailing. The final destination is a comfortable and safe home for many critters. Please jump aboard (like our page) and follow along with the adventure! ARRR gained federal accreditation for 501-(c)(3) non profit status as of October 30, 2015.

Jewel, the emaciated horse ARRR took in last year, is finally well enough and strong enough to be let out to the big pasture. Cassandra recorded Jewel's first moments in the pasture. It was a big deal for the ARRR Crew, as well as the horses.

Happy Caturday from ARRR! Angel is a wonderful kitty. Simply wonderful 😊! However, he needs a shave once a year, so Leah took photos while James held and Michelle did the shaving. Just look at Angel's face!

In the owner'swords: "She is 4 years old. She is a very loving cat loves to crawl in your lap and get lots of pets. She is a huge sweetheart and loves to be brushed. She’s very playful and does great with kids. She has never tried to bite or scratch anyone. She does get along with other cats good once she is settled in but she hasn’t been around dogs before."

Lady has not adjusted to a new baby in the home, so the owner is trying to find a new home for this lovely kitty. Please private message ARRR for more info.

Ok, so we have to brag a little.
THIS is the kind of thing that makes us proud. We don't always have success like this, but it's what we aim for. Just look at the difference in Jewel! There was only a tiny chance of her survival and our vet advised us not to get our hopes too high, however Jewel is doing absolutely fantastic and we now have hopes of her being released out to the big pasture at some point. ARRR saved this beautiful soul.

Please help support us in our mission.

(UPDATE: a kind person donated a machine and it appears to work just fine. Thank you, Tina!) ARRR's washing machine went kaput. 🫨
Does anyone happen to have a decent washing machine that they'd be willing to donate, please?

Please spread the word as we need one pretty quickly. Thanks!

Stevie Nicks waited five years, FIVE YEARS, for the right person to come along.

Stevie requires some special care and a prescription diet, but that didn't phase Ben. The connection between those two was pretty immediate. Stevie has moved to her new home, and the ARRR Crew couldn't be happier for her!

Thank you, Ben, for being the person that you are, and for giving a special kitty a loving home 🐈‍⬛

Before the first mow of the season, walk the lawn once. The whole thing takes ten minutes and it catches what the mower can't see.

A doe leaves her fawn in the tall-grass strip along a fence line. The fawn lies flat and stays still — her instinct is to hide, not run. She's nearly invisible from standing height.

A cottontail rabbit nests in a shallow dip in the middle of the lawn, covered with grass and belly fur. The kits are small and don't move.

A bumblebee queen digs into bare soil at a lawn edge to start a colony. She's just below the surface.

Ground-nesting sparrows build nests that are invisible from above.

None of them are visible from behind a mower deck. All of them are in the areas you're about to cut.

🌿 The ten-minute check before the first mow:

- Walk the lawn slowly before starting — especially fence lines, brushy corners, unmowed strips, and any flat patch you haven't walked through recently
- Look for ears pressed flat, small patches of fur, or a quarter-sized hole in the dirt with bees entering and exiting
- If you find anything, reroute around that area for the next two to three weeks
- Raise the deck to the highest setting — three to four inches instead of two. Every inch of height is clearance for what's underneath
- Skip the edges for the first few mows of the season — the edges are where most of them are

The mow takes twenty minutes. The walk takes ten. Do both 🌿
