A cremello horse is a rare, "double diluted" equine with a cream-colored coat, pink skin, and blue eyes, caused by a chestnut base coat and two copies of the cream gene. They have white or cream manes and tails and are sometimes mistaken for albinos, but they are not.

November 1, 1947
On the nine year anniversary of Seabiscuit and War Admiral's famous match race, and nearly a month after the death of Will Harbut Man o' War's beloved friend and groom the big red hoss lay down for the very last time.
It is said he died of a broken heart.

Thousands of people came to pay their respects to the champion at his funeral. Big Red was laid out in his coffin before being buried at Faraway Farm with his blanket. Man o' War's memorial service was broadcasted on national radio where millions of people listened intently.

Today Man o' War the Horse of the Century is remembered through his hundreds if not thousands of descendants. His grave is now located at The Kentucky Horse Park with a life-size statue standing over it.

Rest in Peace to De mostest hoss.

Man o' War did not beat, he merely annihilated. He did not run to world records, he galloped to them. He was so far superior to his contemporaries that, except for one race against John P. Grier, they could not extend him. In 1920 he dominated racing as perhaps no athlete-- not Tilden or Jones or Dempsey or Louis or Nurmi or Thorpe or any human athlete--had dominated his sport.
- Joe Palmer, American Race Horses

“Man o’ War was the mightiest Thoroughbred the American turf has ever known. His career came to a roaring stop in 1920, after he had won 20 races in 21 starts.
He had speed, stamina, courage and heart, and he broke most of the existing records of his day. I was his trainer, and I can truthfully say there has never been another horse like him. He was the kind of horse from which dreams are made... ”
- Louis Feustel

They clocked him at 1:32 1/5 for a mile—a world record that still stands, 55 years later. They weighed his heart at 22 pounds—the largest ever recorded in a racehorse. They called him "The Doctor," but Dr. Fager didn’t heal. He destroyed. Arlington Park, August 1968. The Washington Park Handicap became his masterpiece. Assigned 134 pounds—a backbreaking load—he faced four rivals under a broiling Chicago sun. Jockey Braulio Baeza barely touched the reins. Dr. Fager broke like a shot, carving out fractions so savage (:45 4/5 for the half-mile), the timer seemed broken. By the stretch, he was alone, his dark bay coat lathered, his lungs screaming. The final time? 1:32 1/5. The margin? 10 lengths. The weight? Irrelevant. The Unshackled: - Won races from 6 furlongs to 1 1/4 miles—a versatility bordering on arrogance. - Carried 139 pounds to victory in the Vosburgh—a modern-era insanity. - Named Horse of the Year, Champion Sprinter, Champion Handicap Horse, and Champion Turf Horse in 1968—a quadruple crown no horse has repeated. His rivalry with Damascus was mythic. In the 1967 Whitney, he conceded 16 pounds and lost by a nose. In the 1968 Suburban, he exacted revenge under 132 pounds. Their duels weren’t races—they were clashing titans. Retired to stud, his fire proved harder to bottle. But his blood still ignites in closers like Artax and Sprinting. When he died suddenly in 1976 from a brain aneurysm, veterinarians discovered his skull was thicker than normal—as if nature itself reinforced him for the storms he’d unleash. They buried him at Tartan Farms, but his ghost never retired. On still mornings at Gulfstream, when a workout bullet blazes the track, old grooms nod. The Doctor is in.
