Happy Graduation to Mr.Winston from our physical therapy dept!!

This big boy showed amazing effort in his recovery after his CCL repair surgery!!

There are two common surgeries for CCL repair in veterinary; a lateral suture and a TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy)!

A lateral suture, also referred to as an extra capsular repair; utilizes a strong surgical suture placed on the outside of the knee joint in a figure-8 pattern, to mimic the actions of the ligament. With physical therapy and a healthy recovery, scar tissue is formed for long term stability.

On the other hand, TPLO, a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy stabilizes the knee by changing the angle of the tibia and placing a specialized metal plate stabilized by screws along the tibia.

Here at Williston Park, we support recovery for CCL tears whether they are medically managed or surgically repaired! Since Mr.Winston loves going on long adventures, we were able to make a custom orthotic brace to better support his knee on his hikes!!

We are wishing Mr.Winston the best adventures 🩶🤍🖤

Kaia got her wheels today!! 🛞🐶

This beautiful girl received her custom fitted wheelchair today and her excitement is undeniable!

There is often a misconception that wheelchairs are a negative, or a setback, however they allow our babies to live more active and fuller lives! As you can see with our baby girl Kaia, her face is radiating with emotion knowing she can explore, play, and move easier again! A wheelchair is simply an aid to allow our fur babies to get around smoother!

At Williston Park Animal Hospital we are proud to offer custom cart measurements and fittings to support your fur babies with mobility challenges

And in the wise words of Lightening McQueen “KA-CHOWW” 🚗 🐾

Our beautiful patient Miss Malibu and her hype song to encourage her on our underwater treadmill!!

The underwater treadmill is an amazing modality that helps boost cardiovascular endurance, strengthen muscles, and an overall great rehabilitative modality! Due to the buoyancy of the water, your baby does not feel the majority of their weights on their joints as they step, thus allowing for the profession of improvement in their gait

Common conditions our underwater treadmill is beneficial for:
- arthritis
- CCL tears / surgical repairs
- neurologic disorders (IVDD, Wobblers, Degenerative Myelopathy, fibrocartilaginous embolism, etc)
- soft tissue injuries
- weight management

Due to the severe winter weather our office will be closed today. Reminder for all pet parents in these freezing temperatures:
1. Understand your pet’s tolerance, some dogs especially with long, thickened coats can spend longer periods of time in the snow- as opposed to short haired dogs. However, dogs with thickened coats can still become affected by the freezing temperatures so be mindful of your pet’s behavior
2. Take extra precautions with your babies whom have pre-existing conditions; diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and hormonal issues have a harder time regulating their own body temperature
3. Check your fur babies paws to ensure no ice or salt has caused irritation
4. KEEP YOUR BABIES AWAY FROM ANTI-FREEZE, IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR PET INGESTED ANY. THE CLOSEST ER:
