Happy Graduation to Mr.Winston from our physical therapy dept!!
This big boy showed amazing effort in his recovery after his CCL repair surgery!!
There are two common surgeries for CCL repair in veterinary; a lateral suture and a TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy)!
A lateral suture, also referred to as an extra capsular repair; utilizes a strong surgical suture placed on the outside of the knee joint in a figure-8 pattern, to mimic the actions of the ligament. With physical therapy and a healthy recovery, scar tissue is formed for long term stability.
On the other hand, TPLO, a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy stabilizes the knee by changing the angle of the tibia and placing a specialized metal plate stabilized by screws along the tibia.
Here at Williston Park, we support recovery for CCL tears whether they are medically managed or surgically repaired! Since Mr.Winston loves going on long adventures, we were able to make a custom orthotic brace to better support his knee on his hikes!!
We are wishing Mr.Winston the best adventures 🩶🤍🖤
