YOUR PET ISN'T PROTECTED UBTIL YOU CHIP THEM AND THEN REGISTER THAT INFORMATION.

Check the Chip Day is celebrated annually on August 15. Itโ€™s that time of the year when we raise awareness regarding the importance of microchipping, which greatly helps in reuniting missing pets with their owners. In fact, every second a family pet is lost, with only one in ten ever being found. As per consensus, approximately ten million pets are lost annually. Microchipping provides peace of mind to pet owners as it confirms the safety of their beloved pets. Gone are the days when pets were kept in cages. Now, they can be free and out of harmโ€™s way.

SUMMERTIME...a time for many plants to be in full bloom. Be aware of indoor and outdoor plants that can pose a risk to your cat. Ingesting just a small piece of some common plants such as tulips could be enough to make a cat ill, and swallowing a sizable amount could prove fatal. Lilies are especially toxic to cats; they can cause life-threatening kidney failure if ingested even in tiny amounts. Using pesticides, fertilizers and w**d killers can also pose a threat to your feline friends.

Today is National Eat Your Vegetables Day! ๐Ÿฅ— See our list of rabbit-safe greens: rabbit.org/care/fruits-vegetables

The most critical part of a rabbit's diet is hay, but fresh, rabbit-safe greens are also important. Besides providing your rabbit with additional nutrients, they also provide your rabbit with different textures and tastes, which are enriching to them as well. Greens also provide more moisture in the diet, which is good for kidney and bladder function.

The bulk of fresh greens should be made up of leafy greensโ€”about 75% of the fresh part of a rabbit's diet. If you've been feeding your rabbit the same greens and are looking for some new veggies to try giving them, a few veggies that are typically very popular with rabbits include: Cilantro, parsley, red or green lettuce, romaine lettuce, kale, dandelion greens, mint, and basil. You can also try giving edible flowers like roses, nasturtiums, pansies, and hibiscuses.

When introducing any new food to a rabbit's diet, it's best to go slowly to allow their GI tract and all its important microorganisms to adjust. Start by introducing one new green every three days and watch the rabbit's stools closely. It's rare for a rabbit who has been on a hay diet first to have any problems using this method, but if you note softer stools that persist over a couple of days, then you might want to remove that food from your bunnyโ€™s diet. Keep a list as you go of the greens that your rabbit has successfully eaten; you will then have a handy shopping list when you go to the store!

Much of the Northeast US is currently being impacted by the smoke from Canadian wildfires, an unusual occurrence, but one that cat owners should be aware of.

The smoke from wildfires can negatively impact the health of both people and pets, and our beloved feline friends are no exception.

Even healthy cats are at increased risk of respiratory problems when they are exposed to smoke from wildfires, and those that have preexisting respiratory (i.e. asthma, pneumonia) or heart (i.e. congestive heart failure) problems are particularly vulnerable.

Be on the lookout for coughing/gagging, red, watery eyes, nasal discharge, open-mouth breathing, fatigue, disorientation, and decreased thirst or appetite, and contact your veterinarian promptly if you notice your cat (s) experiencing one of more of these signs.

Until conditions improve, we recommend that you keep your cats indoors, if at all possible, prevent them from partaking in strenuous physical activity, and that you take measures to purify indoor air by using air conditioners and/or air purifiers if they are available.
