I believe God speaks through horses.

Not in words.
Not in sermons.
Not in thunder.

But in presence.
In stillness.
In the quiet way something can reach your soul without ever making a sound.

Horses have a way of meeting you exactly where you are -
when your heart is heavy,
when your faith feels tired,
when your prayers feel stuck somewhere between hope and waiting.

They don’t rush you.
They don’t demand explanations.
They don’t ask you to be strong when you are worn thin.

They simply stand with you.

And in that standing, something sacred happens.

Their breath slows your own.
Their calm steadies your racing thoughts.
Their awareness pulls you out of the noise and back into the present moment-
the only place God has ever asked us to be.

There is humility in a horse.
A quiet obedience to the rhythm of life.
A sensitivity to energy that feels almost holy.

They feel what we try to hide.
They respond to what we carry.
They soften when we soften.
They grow still when we need grounding.

And I don’t think that’s accidental.

I think God, in His gentleness, knew some hearts would need a different kind of language.

A language of touch instead of talk.
Of presence instead of answers.
Of trust built slowly instead of forced.

Through horses, we learn patience.
We learn surrender.
We learn that control is an illusion and trust is everything.

We learn that strength doesn’t have to be loud.
That power can be gentle.
That leadership is rooted in love, not force.

We learn to listen -
not just with our ears,
but with our spirit.

There are prayers I couldn’t put into words
that were somehow answered
standing beside a horse in the quiet of the barn.

There were tears I didn’t know how to pray through
that were met with a warm neck and a steady breath.

There were seasons of waiting
where the only peace I felt
was in the presence of something God created
to remind me that I was not alone.

Horses don’t replace faith.
They lead you back to it.

They remind you of how God moves -
patiently,
faithfully,
without forcing,
without rushing.

They show you what it looks like to trust.
To be led.
To rest in presence instead of fear.

And when a horse looks at you with those deep, knowing eyes,
it feels like being reminded:

“I see you.
You are safe.
You are held.
You are not forgotten.”

I don’t think that’s coincidence.

I think sometimes,
God speaks in hoofbeats and breath,
in stillness and trust,
in the quiet companionship of a horse who stands beside you
and somehow makes the weight feel lighter.

And if you’ve ever felt your soul settle
just by being near one,

you understand.

God doesn’t always speak loudly.

Sometimes…
He whispers through horses.

Do you feel this?

Profound…

Profound…

I don’t know exactly what 2026 will bring.
But I know this—

2026 is the year of the horse.

The year of slowing down
without falling behind.
The year of choosing depth
over noise.
The year of trusting instinct
instead of chasing approval.

Horses don’t rush into a new season.
They step into it steady.
Aware.
Grounded.

And that’s the energy I’m carrying into 2026.

The year of listening more closely—
to my body,
to my intuition,
to the quiet places
that have always told me the truth.

The year of building trust
instead of forcing outcomes.
The year of showing up consistently,
even when no one’s watching.
The year of understanding
that strength doesn’t have to be loud
to be powerful.

2026 feels like the year
we stop explaining ourselves.

The year we choose what feels right
instead of what looks impressive.
The year we honor the pace
that actually sustains us.

Horses don’t apologize for their needs.
They don’t perform for validation.
They don’t chase what isn’t aligned.

They move when it’s time.
They rest when it’s not.
They trust the rhythm
that’s already written into them.

That’s the lesson.

Let 2026 be the year of the horse—
the year of calm confidence.
The year of grounded growth.
The year of quiet strength.

The year we stop rushing the process
and start respecting it.

The year we remember
that everything meaningful
takes time.

And maybe—
just maybe—
that’s when things finally fall into place.

Here’s to 2026.
Steady.
Intentional.
Rooted.

The year of the horse.

Who's ready for 2026?

Understanding this simple yet profound scientific fact has certainly changed my life not only with my own horses, but in all other aspects and relationships!

Here’s a little horse science to kick off your Boxing Day, folks 🧠🐴

I know a lot of people spend what feels like a million bucks on gadgets, gear, and the next best thing, but none of that really matters if you don’t understand that your horse is engaging with you through the emotional and survival part of the brain.

It’s not about equipment, training, or techniques. It’s about understanding that your horse is meeting you through the limbic system, the part of the brain that governs connection, emotion, and safety.

This is called Limbic Resonance.

Limbic resonance is the deep, non verbal emotional and physiological syncing that happens between individuals through the brain’s limbic system. In humans, this is how empathy, bonding, and emotional understanding develop. It’s that feeling of being on the same wavelength, where one person’s inner state naturally influences another’s.

We see this everywhere. A calm person can settle someone who feels anxious. A baby relaxes in the arms of someone who feels safe. Dogs will often choose to sit near certain people or lean into them, while reacting nervously around others. None of this relies on words or deliberate behaviour. It’s about how that person feels on the inside.

This is limbic resonance at work.

So what does limbic resonance actually look like in the body?

Inside the brain is a group of structures called the limbic system. This system is responsible for emotions, memory, bonding, and survival responses. It is constantly scanning the environment for information about safety, danger, and connection.

The limbic system does not work on its own. It is directly linked to the central nervous system, which carries electrical impulses throughout the body. These impulses influence breathing, heart rate, muscle tone, posture, facial expression, and subtle movement. Together, they create your internal state.

And that internal state is not private.

We are constantly broadcasting it outward in several ways at once. Through our body signals like posture, tension, breath, and rhythm. Through chemical signals such as scent and pheromones. And through electrical impulses moving through the nervous system. Other mammals pick this up automatically, without thinking about it.

This is limbic resonance in action. It is nervous system to nervous system communication. No words needed.

Horses excel at this.

As prey animals that have survived for over 55 million years, horses have developed this system to an extraordinary level. Their survival has always depended on being able to sense and respond to subtle changes in others. They are masters of limbic resonance.

Within a herd, horses are constantly reading each other’s emotional and physical states. This silent communication keeps them safe. It is their primary language.

When we spend time with horses, we step into that system.

Horses do not tune into our words first. They sense how we feel, how present we are, and what we are carrying inside. Long before we act or speak, they already know whether we feel calm, unsure, confident, or unsettled.

Your internal dialogue plays a big role here.

And to be fair, it is completely understandable that you might feel uneasy when you see something worrying ahead, especially when you are out riding. A flapping tarp, a banging gate, or something unfamiliar in the distance can easily trigger a moment of tension. That does not make you a bad rider or handler. It makes you human.

If you are standing there thinking, oh no, he’s going to freak out, your nervous system is already broadcasting tension. Your horse feels that immediately, often before anything actually happens, and that is very often the moment that actually sets him off and makes him freak out.

If instead you can gently train yourself to pause, breathe, and think, it’s fine, nothing to worry about, I’ve got this and I’ve got you, that provides him with a sense of reassurance and safety that often keeps him calm.

You do not need to say it out loud. When your thoughts, breathing, and body line up, your horse can feel that steadiness and borrow it. If you see something as just a thing, your horse is far more likely to see it the same way.

This is why breathing matters so much.

Slow, steady breathing slows the heart rate and settles the nervous system. When your nervous system settles, you are not pretending to be calm, you actually are calm. That genuine calmness then flows naturally through your body, your chemistry, and your nervous system.

Horses pick this up instantly.

When a horse feels that real steadiness, they feel safer. And when a horse feels safe, they are more likely to want to be near you, connect with you, and stay relaxed. Not because you asked them to, but because your presence feels good to be around.

And no, you do not need to be a Tibetan monk sitting on a mountain to do this.

Simply slowing your breathing, softening your body, and being present is enough. Even a few conscious breaths can change what you are broadcasting.

Horses do not need perfection. They just need you to be real.

In humans, limbic resonance builds connection and understanding. In horses, it is about safety and survival.

When you understand this, working with horses becomes less about trying harder and more about slowing down, breathing, and being present.

And honestly, that probably is the most valuable Boxing Day gift you can give your horse.

Pure being…Love that!

Look into the eyes of an animal — truly look.
There is no judgment, no anger, no masks.
Only quiet presence, pure and honest — the way we once were too.

Animals don’t divide the world into good or evil.
They simply live, feel, trust…
and teach us to become better than we are.

In their eyes, there is pure being —
and a reminder that we once carried that purity within ourselves too.

An excerpt from my new book, “Stumbling With Grace”
—-

“It’s better to make a mistake in rhythm, than to lose balance correcting.”

My teacher said that to me yesterday in our lesson, and she meant in hand work.

But there’s a perfectly timed life lesson in there for me.

When things get messy, that’s when it’s the most important to soften, and to let yourself flow. Don’t dig into the mistake and spend energy in resistance, or you just get bowled over. Soften your face, your arms, your mind, and let go for a minute, then reintegrate.

It’s the hardest thing in the world. It feels like losing. It feels like your entire life is falling apart. It feels like a burn inside of an ache, until you let go, and accept it for what it is. It’s a mess. But we can make it productive still.

Let go of the original plan. Reinvent. Let’s make something entirely new.

“Don’t suppress the horses’ energy,” she said to me. “Take it and flow with it. Then you have all the power, but with a calm state of mind.”

There is power in trouble, power in pain. We resist it because, naturally, it feels bad. But what if we lean into it, and make something beautiful of it?

All of the power, with a calm state of mind.

Morning Mantra: “The longer you entertain what’s not for you, the longer you postpone what is.”

Does our perception of life, of things, and of ourselves actually reflect in the way life presents itself to us? What if our thoughts do create our reality? What if our experience of life is a direct reflection of our inner landscape? Would you try to think differently?

One of the greatest joys about life is that it only takes a slight shift in perception and attitude to actually shift the quality of any given day. Because whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life.

If you continue to believe as you always have believed, you will continue to act as you always have acted. If you continue to act as you’ve always acted, you will continue to get what you’ve always gotten.

If you want different results in your life you have to change your mind. You have to change your thoughts, which will change your actions, which will change your destiny.

You have to think and believe that you deserve whatever it is you desire, then act like you believe it.
