Sometimes the best lessons are about finding relaxation, building trust, and ending the ride with a happy horse and a confident rider. Moments like these are where real progress happens! Every ride is a chance to learn, grow, and strengthen the partnership between horse and rider.💙

~Silverfox and his mom are new clients of mine for riding lessons. They are working towards being able to go on the trails and have nice relaxing rides to escape the busy world just for a bit. Silverfox is stuck in turbo mode and needs to learn how to relax and just go slow and steady. We started the lesson off in turbo mode and ended it in a much more relaxed and calm state. By the end of the lesson he was able to stand calmly and actually started to fall asleep😴~

Today's training session, with Aphrodite, focused on improving responsiveness through consistent walk to trot and trot to walk transitions. She was also introduced to ground poles and various obstacles designed to simulate situations she may encounter on the trails with her owner.
She’s building confidence, balance, and trust in her rider. She's making great progress and will make her owner a very nice pleasure horse in no time!

Meet Aphrodite🩷

Aphrodite is a stunning Andalusian mare who has recently joined A&R Equestrian for training, and we’re excited to begin her journey. She is returning to work with a focus on rebuilding the fundamentals under saddle, developing confidence on the trail, and improving her trailer loading skills so that she and her owner can confidently get out and enjoy exploring the trails together.

In just one ride, Aphrodite has already shown how willing, intelligent, and kind she is. She’s proving to be a very sweet mare with a lot of potential, and we’re looking forward to helping her continue to grow both mentally and physically through consistent, confidence-building work.

Every horse’s training journey is unique, and we’re excited to share her progress along the way. Stay tuned for future updates on Aphrodite’s development and milestones!

🩵If you have a horse that could benefit from professional training rides, tune-up work, confidence-building, groundwork, or consistent schooling, feel free to message A&R Equestrian to learn more about our off-site training services. (English and western disciplines welcome!)💙

Olaf got a hair cut today!

I was planning on leaving his mane this year instead of doing a Mohawk like usual, but I guess he liked his Mohawk because he decided to rub a huge chunk of mane out😐. Oh well I think he looks handsome with or without his mane 🥰🩵

90 plus degrees calls for muddy ponies🫣

Did you know?
Horses use mud/dirt as a way of giving themselves and natural sunscreen and bug barrier. It also helps them stay cooler in high heat.
Whenever the heat is above 90* I’ll hose the boys down, let them roll, sprinkle some more water on them and they’ll roll again to get as much dirt on them as possible. Not all horses need this, but having three lighter colored horses it’s helped a ton to keep them happy in the heat🥵🥰

(Yes I also wet their fly sheets to keep them cooler longer. They love it!)

I don’t want to take the light away from the actual story, BUT this horse is living proof old age isn’t a pass or reason for horses to be underweight at ALL. This mare lived *25 years* in the wild and based on her body condition I would’ve guessed she was around 10yrs old. As an owner of an almost 27 year old horse, I take this very seriously. I see way too many old horses slowly starving to death just because people assume them being old means they can’t be fat. My old man (Roman, who still does lessons and blazes down the trails just like all the young guns) has been mistaken for ages all over the place, normally ranging between 10-15yrs old. So it’s really not an excuse to let them be skinny just because they’re old. Please do better for your old horses and figure out how to keep them at the proper weight. Whether that means getting the vet involved, doing trial and error with different feed brands and amounts, more frequent feedings, or just giving them more food at the least. Please let’s all do better for our old horses! They gave their entire lives to us humans the least we can do is make sure they are fat, happy, and healthy until their final days. And remember “a day too soon, is better than a day too late!”

Had a wonderful lesson with Sally Cousins Eventing on Wednesday! It was great getting my young horse, Olaf, off property. He hasn’t been trailered out since last summer, but he handled the new environment and bad weather like a champ! Though some may say he was a bit *too* enthusiastic over the jumps 🫣🤣
