Ark Encounter's Ararat Ridge Zoo The Ararat Ridge Zoo at the Ark Encounter houses nearly 200 amazing animals from around the world! Camel rides and camel encounters have an additional cost.

The Ararat Ridge Zoo, children's zoo, kangaroo walkabout, and animal programs are included with Ark Encounter admission.

It's time for a zookeeper spotlight...meet our small mammal manager, Shelly! 👏 She started as a seasonal staff member 8 years ago (or was it 7? 😉). What does it take to keep an animal that weighs over 1,000 pounds healthy? Lots of training and treats! Our zookeepers and animal health staff work diligently to train our camels to participate in their own veterinary care- this includes blood draws! By collecting blood samples regularly, our veterinarian can monitor their internal health while the camels enjoy receiving extra treats during the blood draw sessions. Win, win!

Once the habitat was finished and keepers deep-cleaned it, our alpacas—Cain and Abel—moved back into their renovated home! Have you ever seen an anteater yawn? Giant anteaters can only open their tiny mouths just wide enough to let their two-foot-long spiny tongues out. They have no teeth and cannot make their own stomach acid. So, they use their tongues to crush prey on the roofs of their mouths, and rely on hardened folds in their stomachs, plus the sand, soil, and formic acid of the ants they eat, to digest their food.

It's the first day of f-owl 🍂🦉🍁 Luna and her keepers are so excited for falling leaves, pumpkin spice, and candied apples. There's also still lots of fun to be had at the zoo! Cooler weather sometimes means more active animals. And don't forget to check out an animal program, feed a camel, pet a goat, stroll through our kangaroo walkabout, or sign up for a sloth or macropod experience! What's your favorite fall activity?
