I try to give my clients the best advice I can…so when a new client was referred to me to breed a 20 year old maiden mare with a bad infection, I tried to talk her out of it. The chances were very low, it was going to cost a fortune, she’d be better off just buying a foal, etc. It was good advice, but she didn’t take it. And this is the result 🩵 Sometimes statistics are just numbers, and Mother Nature finds ways to make sure we remember that!

This is Tori. If you put her in a large field, you’ll never catch her. If you lock her in a stall, she’ll dig a 2 foot hole. If you’re holding her for an exam, better watch your fingers because she’ll bite you (she’s always good to the examiner though 😇) Despite all that, we ❤️ her. Some broodmares are just special and they know it….

On vacation in Athens, Greece (if you talked to me at all in the week before I left you KNOW I needed it!) This bronze sculpture, “The Artemision Jockey” was created in 140 BC 🤯🤯 It’s known for the realistic facial features of the young rider, but I would argue that the stallion’s (yup, I looked!) features are just as dramatic and emotional. And check out the brand on the right thigh of the horse: Nike or winged victory that he got for WINNING an equestrian competition 😬 I’m pretty sure he didn’t know that was coming or he might not have tried so hard! But I guess it’s the blue ribbon you carry with you!

Our horse of the week is the lovely Arrowhead’s Melania. Mel has become a barn favorite because of her sweet & curious disposition (and because she’s the only mare who likes to play with her jolly ball!)
