Check out these training tips from Tori! 🐩
Next session class schedule dropping soon! 🎉
One thing about me is you will never catch me telling you that you are a bad dog owner no matter what kind of methods you use. I’m here to help and offer advice and support!🙌🏻 I will never use any kind of punishment on my dog and will always use +R when instructing clients and training new dogs!
🔥Why go to a pet store instead of a dog park?
-Dog parks are usually filled with dogs with bad behaviors, sometimes aggressive dogs, and owners who can’t read body language. Fights are bound to happen.
- With a pet store, you can work on neutrality around other dogs and people. Your dog does not need to meet every person or dog they cross paths with and this will help lessen the chance of reactivity and make them fun to take to stores!!
🔥 Why reward the behavior I want to see?
- Let’s think about it, why wouldn’t a dog do what’s more reinforcing for them? You catch your dog counter surfing. You yell and s***k them. They cower and run off. Afraid of you and running away.
-Next time you say “Molly come!” In a high pitched voice. You quickly grab the yummiest treat and they come running towards you happy and sit down. You also take whatever they wanted off the counter and manage your environment. Now you have a dog who listens and is excited!🙌🏻
🔥Wait! Walking in a heel all the time is bad?
-Quick answer, YES! Walks are so important to dogs and it’s their favorite time! Sniffing is enriching for them and they love to sniff with that nose! It’s a great outlet and a chance for them to catch a break and just to be a dog.
-I absolutely love using heel on my dog and teaching it to my clients, but before they learn heel they are also taught to use loose leash walking and let their dogs sniff! Heel is only for distractions, it does not need to be constant in the walk.
Interested in joining a group class? Soon I’ll have new dates and times posted on Jorgensen's Doggy Barn ! Im also fairly available for private lessons if group lessons are too much for your pup!☺️🐶
