Luckily for Miss Hazel Button, the vet’s office is one of them! We’re always happy to see this sweet, smiling girl - pants or no pants. ❤️

Meet Wembley! 🦖💙

Wembley came in last week to be neutered, and today he returned for his post-surgical check to make sure everything is healing as expected.

He has been doing a fabulous job with his recovery - maybe his awesome dinosaur surgical suit deserves some of the credit! We also hear he has a second one at home covered in planets. 🪐

🐾 That’s a wrap on Kennel Team Appreciation Week! 💦

We had so much fun celebrating our Puppy Enrichment Specialists and recognizing everything they do behind the scenes at WWVH.

From leading Stay & Play and creating positive experiences for our puppies to keeping the hospital clean and stocked and jumping in wherever an extra hand is needed, their hard work makes a difference throughout our hospital every day.

We finished the week with a water gun fight to cool down and celebrate! ☀️💦

Our group photo may be missing a few members of the kennel team, but we appreciate every single person who helps keep WWVH running smoothly. We would also like to give a warm welcome to the newest members of our team: Izzy, Jovita, Kyra, and Owen! We are so happy to have you with us. 💙

What made you want to work with animals?
“I’ve always loved being around animals, and their gross behavior doesn’t bother me that much, so it seemed like a perfect fit!”

What is your favorite part of working at WWVH?
“I like working with my coworkers, and I’ve made a lot of friends over the years.”

What is one thing people may not realize about the work our kennel team does?
“We do a lot of extra cleaning throughout the hospital, from our deep-cleaning duties to our outdoor maintenance lists. We also refill the disinfectant bottles every week.”

What is your favorite enrichment activity?
“Pool time is always a hit with the puppies and helps them cool off during the hot summer months.”

Just for fun: What animal would make the best detective?
“The best detective would definitely be a penguin!” 🐧🔎

What made you want to work with animals?
“I’ve always had a love for animals of all types. I’m fascinated by understanding how they think, behave, and communicate.”

What is your favorite part of working at WWVH?
“Having the opportunity to use my education in dog training and continue building my skills in the grooming salon.”

What is one thing people may not realize about the work our kennel team does?
“How many aspects of cooperative care training we work on with the puppies—and how much patience it requires.”

What is your favorite enrichment activity?
“Watching the puppies explore the kiddie pools, especially because we can only bring the pools out during the summer.”

Just for fun: What animal would make the best detective?
“A fox, because they’re often considered sly, clever, and curious—which sound like great traits for a detective!” 🦊🔎

Who has been your favorite Stay & Play puppy?
“Kai, a German Shorthaired Pointer. She was the first puppy I got to work with through our cooperative care program.”

What made you want to work with animals?
“I’ve had animals all my life, especially reptiles.”

What is your favorite part of working at WWVH?
“Aside from the animals, my favorite part is being able to grow close to my coworkers and how much they have helped me grow as a person during the more than five years I’ve been here.”

What is one thing people may not realize about the work our kennel team does?
“We step up to help wherever we are needed when the hospital gets hectic. That might mean assisting during appointments, filling medications, contacting clients, or helping in another area of the hospital.”

What is your favorite enrichment activity?
“Crocheting.” 🧶

Just for fun: What animal would make the best detective?
“Snakes, because they just sit and watch. Maybe judge a little bit, too.”

Who has been your favorite Stay & Play puppy?
“I will always have a soft spot for all the pitties, but Oliver H!"

What made you want to work with animals?
“I’ve always had animals growing up, so I wanted to be able to help people with their pets.”

What is your favorite part of working at WWVH?
“My favorite part is the staff. Not only do I get to see cute animals all day, but I also get to be surrounded by amazing people. We are all super close, and everyone is extremely helpful.”

What is one thing people may not realize about the work our kennel team does?
“People may not realize that the kennel team monitors animal behavior, which allows us to alert a veterinarian or another staff member when something doesn’t seem right.”

What is your favorite enrichment activity?
“Definitely using a lick mat during mock exams! It helps distract the puppies while getting them more comfortable with the environment and what happens during an examination.”

Just for fun: What animal would make the best detective?
“A cat, because of how quiet they can be and how they can sneak into smaller places without anyone noticing.”

Who has been your favorite Stay & Play puppy?
“During my time here so far, Lola has been my favorite puppy. She is so sweet and did so well during her Stay & Play days.”
