Glimmers.
In the world of psychology, the term “glimmers” is used to describe little moments in our day that make us feel things like happy, present, hopeful or safe.
Glimmers are the opposite of what we call “triggers”.
These spontaneous micro-moments have the ability to come forth even in our hardest of season. They are available regardless of the emotions we are experiencing.
Their one requirement: Noticing them.
Notice the color of the flowers, the sound of the trees or the awesomeness of the sky.
Notice the coziness of our favorite blanket, or our loved one’s arm wrapped around us.
Notice the giggle and smile on the sweet face of a babe.
Or the warm feeling you carry after being with someone you love.
Glimmers can be a quiet “it’s going to be okay” whisper in the back of your mind, even when that’s been so hard to believe.
No matter what is happening, we have access to glimmers. But far too often, we don’t notice them. And even if we do, we let them go so quickly.
I encourage you, sit in your glimmer.
When you notice it, grab ahold of it and breathe deep as you take it in.
Let it sink into your bones.
Let time stand still for awhile.
Let your nervous system experience these glimpses of goodness.
Because you know what’s cool?
The more you do it, the more you’ll notice glimmers. And the more glimmers you’ll have.
God made our brain amazing.
And He wants you to see and experience His beauty all around you.
So here is your reminder, friend:
Slow down enough to notice,
And hold on to the glimmers.
