No better way to start the day. We had a track we thought set for the morning and after a few calls and texts later decided they didn’t want or need us. Was going to hunt this morning and got a text from Garret saying he hit a deer last night and they had tracked and lost blood. Shot was high and back. Could be a 50/50 chance we find it at best depending on what he hit and pe*******on. We started at the point of loss and made a small circle 100yards out as three people grid searched the area looking for the deer. We no further get to the end of our semi-circle out front and Blu’s reaction changed from a fun walk to business. He immediately caught onto the scent and a 100 yards further we found this nice buck. Hunters may have grid searched it near and missed this one in the dark. Great way to start the morning and Congratulations to Garret on his second bow kill!!

Side not the area was all torn up around his buck from another buck likely fighting it in the early part of this morning. Get out hunting and if you have a question, just text or call. Even if we can help advise without us coming out.

Deer tracking to help recover deer that may have been otherwise lost!!

Sunday night we got 4 calls for tracks. We are going to highlight this one in particular. Misplaced shots happen. Deer move. Branches happen you name it. But most tracks that are forward hunters say they hit it right behind the shoulder. In this case, Scott did hit it in a pretty good spot. Based on how close the deer was the exit was low. Part of the liver was hit and thus deer was incredibly strong to continue on. Based on the shot, we lined off the initial tracked line to the point of loss. From there Blu continued on to the field edge. As we tracked further into the large woods we started to find fresh blood that was very dark, almost black. Seeing this, we made the call to back out and started here in the morning. We had tracked around 400 yds at this point. The next morning we continued on. Had to wait momentarily for permission on a thin strip of land. Then the deer moved back onto the main woodlot. Almost 800 yards further we were able to locate this deer. Incredible how tough they are!! Congratulations to Scott on one of the very unique deer we have tracked. Last picture with arrow in this buck last year and likely what caused the side to be dis formed.

Good morning people!!!! Follow along on a track with us this morning!!

Well. There is a hammer alert and will write up a post on Blu’s 2 tracks from Sunday night. First things first. We have been working the last several months (Cedar is now 7 months old) on training him for tracking deer. Our last lab Sadie was an outstanding retriever on geese and ducks. Cedar also enjoys waterfowl although he hasn’t done it yet.

A good friend of ours son River arrowed this nice doe Sunday. They were kind enough to wait for us to get there with Cedar. In the meantime we got 3 more calls for deer tracks. One was an absolute giant drop time double main beam. More on that so stay tuned!!

Cedar lined out well after the shot and there was not much blood, but enough to call out that you know he was following it well. We got to 190ish yards and there was nothing. A turn. We have laid many tracks for him and started incorporating turns the last few months. We did a circle and he did go that way. But being a bad dog handler I pulled him back and we even talked like, Let’s just go get Blu. Well I put him back on the line and he made the same left turn. Let him go a little further and there was the deer!! Now we got spoiled with Blu as he has it in his genetics to follow wounded animals being “part coyote” from many years ago. That said this was extremely rewarding track and Cedar is going to be a lot of fun to watch grow! Blu is still getting the main tracks including the next post which went 1200 yards nearly!

Incredible dog work and we now need more “pheasants” for Cedar!! If your near wild rose and hit a deer you see fall over and it went 100 plus yards or believe it was a solid shot. Hit me up. Would always give you priority in the future if you need help!! We always track for free and do appreciate the donations for the time/gas etc. But at the end of the day we always want to find that next deer!!

Had an excellent youth hunt for our two kids and lifelong friends son. Both of ours sons shot their first gun buck and my daughter also shot a buck. The weekend was capped off by one of TJs teammates first buck!! They called asking for some help and we jumped on the opportunity!! They were 40 yards from the deer, but some very high shielding grass covered his location and they had lost blood. Shot was a perfect heart shot with the .223. Blu made quick work of this and we were excited to see Adler behind his first deer!! Congratulations to all the successful youth hunters!!
