Amanda Richmond Rogers vanished on December 23, 2023, after jumping into an icy river in a daring attempt to save her dog, Groot, who had fallen into the water during a hike in Alaska. Despite extensive search operations conducted by authorities and volunteers over several days, they were unable to find her. Four months later, on March 24, 2024, a passerby discovered Amanda's body holding her beloved Groot, confirming the heroic act her family had always described.

Important announcement!!!

Starting this upcoming week for the New Year is what I am calling a Behavior Hotline!!!

This service is FREE OF CHARGE for immediate, short term behavior support/advice. This service does NOT substitute long term training or behavior modification and is meant to offer knowledge and advice for temporary support. It is NOT fool proof!!

What does this mean? Essentially if you are experiencing behaviors with your pet(s) that require immediate intervention, but aren't able to access a trainer right away - you can contact me and I will do my best to assess the situation from afar (I will ask for videos of the behaviors) and offer some quick tips and tricks to manage your situation. There are limitations to this service, it is not the same as doing full virtual training sessions - which are a service I provide. Feel free to message me directly for more information, ask questions in the comments, and/or contact me with your behavior support needs. Some examples of what this service can be used for include, but are not limited to;
Sudden resource guarding
Safely managing multiple animals
Sudden changes in behavior with humans/kids
Minor medical questions
What to do if your dog bites some one/thing
Breaking up a dog fight/incident
Much more

Update on our boy — “Mr. Stumpy” 🐾

Yes, that’s officially his new name.

Mr. Stumpy is estimated to be 3–4 years old, neutered, and as of today fully vaccinated. That’s the good news.

The heartbreaking part?
X-rays showed he was shot.
The injury to his leg is old, meaning he lived with this pain for a long time.

The words that came with his story were: “He was annoying and the neighbors didn’t want him around.”

Let me be very clear — humans are still careless, and animals pay the price. God’s creatures don’t deserve this cruelty.

But here’s what Mr. Stumpy does deserve:
• Safety
• Compassion
• Medical care
• And a future far better than the one he was given.

He will need to see an orthopedic surgeon, and amputation is a real possibility. Until funding comes through or a sponsor steps up, we are doing what we do best — giving him nothing but love, comfort, and dignity.

Maybe if the people who hurt him had even an ounce of that, we wouldn’t be here… but here we are 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mr. Stumpy will have a better life than they ever could have imagined.
That part is non-negotiable. 💪🐶

🚨 URGENT RESCUE INTAKE
HIT BY CAR IN WHITNEY 🚨

We RESCUED a dog that was hit by a vehicle on FM 1713 in Whitney.
He has a suspected broken leg, is in pain, and requires immediate veterinary care including X-rays, stabilization, pain management, and likely surgery.

This was not a “found pet” situation — this dog is now under rescue care, and the medical responsibility falls on us.

💔 Emergency cases like this are exactly why rescues struggle — the need is immediate, but funding is not.

🙏 WE NEED HELP ASAP
Every dollar goes directly toward:
• Emergency exam & X-rays
• Pain medication
• Orthopedic care / surgery
• Follow-up recovery care

At Paws Place Rescue Inc., we are on duty 24/7—literally.

That means very little sleep. It means stepping outside in the middle of the night like a security groundskeeper, flashlight in hand, talking to the dogs…
“There’s no need to scare the sheep with all that barking.”
“How are you feeling tonight—does that eye look like it’s healing?”

Sometimes the coyotes howl, and our dogs answer right back.

For the ones who are truly sick—the ones who need round-the-clock care—there is warm broth, comfort, and someone awake to administer medications exactly when they’re needed. No one is left alone. Ever!
That is Paws Place Rescue Inc.
We are not a shelter. We are a 24/7 animal rescue.

But the reality is this: veterinary bills continue to add up. And when funds are low, the cost doesn’t stop—it comes out of our own pockets. We do this because it is a community service, and because these animals depend on us.

We cannot continue this work without the community’s help.

If you believe in what we do—if you want us to keep showing up day and night for the animals who have nowhere else to go—please consider donating, sharing, or supporting Paws Place Rescue Inc.

Together, we can keep helping you, and we can keep saving them. 🐾💙

Florida just launched its first statewide animal abuser database as part of "Dexter's Law," named after a shelter dog that was brutally killed in Pinellas County, just days after being adopted.

This new tool helps shelters, rescues, and pet owners screen potential adopters. 🐾

✨ Happy New Year from all of us at
Paws Place Rescue Inc. ✨

As we welcome 2026, we want to pause and say THANK YOU to the people who made this possible.

To our sponsors, adopters, volunteers, donors, Caregivers, Vet Clinics, and supporters — you are the reason this rescue is still standing, still fighting, and still saving lives. When the community needed us, the community stepped up for us.

Because of you, animals had food, medical care, safety, and hope.
Because of you, Paws Place Rescue Inc. stayed alive and running.

⏳ Only 3 more months and we hit ONE FULL YEAR as an official rescue.
Let that countdown begin… because this journey is just getting started.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for believing in us, standing with us, and being part of this mission. 🐾💛

Here’s to another year of saving lives — together. 🥂🐶🐱🐷
