🦃 Thanksgiving: Dog Safety Tips!
The holidays are almost here, and while we’re prepping the turkey and getting the house ready for guests, it’s so important to make sure our pups stay safe, calm, and comfortable too.
Here are some must-know reminders for a smooth and stress-free Thanksgiving! 💛
✨ Safe Foods Your Dog Can Enjoy
• Plain cooked turkey (no skin, no seasoning)
limited amounts as this can cause gas
• Plain green beans
• Plain pumpkin
• Carrots & apples (without seeds and par cooked for better digestion)
🚫 Foods to Keep Far Away From Your Pup
• Turkey skin, bones, or heavily seasoned meat
• Stuffing (onions, garlic, spices = big NO)
• Grapes & raisins
• Chocolate & desserts with xylitol
• Alcohol
• Fatty foods or casseroles
REMEMBER TO GIVE ANYTHING THEY NORMALLY DO NOT EAT IN SMALL PORTIONS, to prevent upset stomachs and gastritis issues!
🚑 Emergency Numbers to Save:
ASPCA Poison Control: 888-426-4435
Pet Poison Helpline: 855-764-7661
(Fees may apply, but they are LIFE-SAVERS.)
🏥 Vet Office Closures
Most regular vets are closed on Thanksgiving Day. If your dog needs medication refills, special diet food, or anxiety meds, call and schedule those refills a few days ahead of time so you’re not scrambling last minute.
Also, know your nearest 24/7 emergency vet just in case.
🐶 Managing Stress & Anxiety with Guests
The hustle and bustle can be overwhelming for some pups. Try:
• Setting up a quiet, comfy room for them to decompress
• Playing calming music or white noise
• Using enrichment to keep them busy (frozen Kongs, lick mats, puzzle feeders)
• Sticking as close as possible to their regular feeding & walk schedule
🚪 Prevent Door Dashing
With people coming and going, it’s easy for dogs to slip out.
• Use a baby gate or exercise pen near entryways
• Make sure their collar fits properly
• Double-check that their tags & microchip info are up to date
