Jill is a sweet, affectionate 4.5 year-old girl looking for her forever home. At 72 pounds, this beautiful pup has great house manners, is house/potty-trained, crate-trained, and loves spending time with her people. She is a little slow to warm up to new people, but once she DOES, she is very affectionate and claims her share of attention. 🥰

Jill gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys playing with friends of all sizes. She has also been respectful around chickens, making her a great fit for a home with a backyard flock. She's not going to GUARD them, but she's also not likely to chase them.

We don't have house cats, so Jill doesn't have experience living with cats, but she has spent time visiting homes with house cats, and has met the clinic cats when we take her to the vet, and she has always been respectful. So if you have one or more house cats, with proper introductions, Jill should be able to live in peace with them.

Jill spent time in a foster home where they took daily walks, so she has really good leash-walking skills. She rides OK in the car, and did well when we took her to an adoption event at Tractor Supply. It was clear that she was a little nervous at first, but once she saw dogs and people she knew, she settled in and enjoyed the day.

Pyometra is a serious and life-threatening infection in the uterus, and your dog's chances of developing pyometra increase with every heat cycle she goes through. It develops due to normal hormonal changes after a female dog’s heat cycle, so the ONLY way to prevent pyometra is to spay your dog.

Spay is ALSO the most effective TREATMENT for pyometra. But spaying a dog with pyometra is much more serious and risky than a typical spay procedure because the uterus is significantly larger, filled with pus, and because it is stretched to its limits, the uterus is much more friable/fragile. If the uterus ruptures before or during surgery, there's a high risk of sepsis, which can be fatal. But failing to treat pyometra is ALSO fatal in most cases. So the healthy choice is to SPAY your dog while she's still young, and to recognize that EVERY heat cycle you allow her to go through INCREASES her risk of developing pyometra.

There are MANY reasons to spay and neuter your pets. If you love your pets, better health should be a huge motivating factor, but making sure that your pets are not contributing to the over-population crisis is another worthy goal.

Today is 🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, and we know that many of you can identify with the grief that comes from losing a beloved pet - we certainly can. We're sharing photos and memories of a few of the animals that we and our adopters have said goodbye to since last year's Rainbow Bridge Remembrance post.

One of the great things about being in rescue is that we have the opportunity to meet and love hundreds of dogs, cats, and farm animals over the years. But with that love comes heartbreak when each one reaches the end of their days on earth.

August is , so it seems like a great opportunity to remind you of the MANY wonderful puppies and dogs we have available for adoption!

Consider the handsome Mr. Blue, one of the most stunning Anatolian Shepherd Dogs we have ever seen! Blue is 5 years old, which makes him just about the perfect age for his job -- mature enough to be past puppy nonsense and reliable in the pasture. At 117 lbs, he's a formidable presence and a solid protector for goats. 🐐🐐🐐 He does NOT do well with sheep 🐑 and doesn't have any experience with 🐓 chickens. Blue gets along with other working dogs, though he does think he should be in charge, and first in line for treats. ☺️

Blue has an intimidating look about him and doesn't trust strangers, so he could be a good property guardian. He is very affectionate with US, and when we introduce him to people, he is very friendly. But if a visitor makes the mistake of trying to enter the pasture WITHOUT ME, Blue is not at all welcoming. Personally, I think that's the way a guardian SHOULD be with strangers, because some people don't have good intentions. But this means Blue is not a good choice for a farm/ranch with high visitor traffic. As with every dog, it's a question of matching the right dog to the right home/job.

Gatesville puppies Bronson and Vaughn are 12 weeks old, and their big foster sister Stevie (also from Gatesville) is not quite 8 months old. Trixie is a badger-face Pyr mix who is a "foster fail" from a previous litter (NOT from Gatesville). Everyone enjoys play time together in their foster home.

The three white pups are available for adoption. We haven't added the youngest puppies to our website because they're not quite finished with their vaccinations yet. But you can still apply to adopt. Stevie IS on our website, though her photos need to be updated. All three pups have made great progress in their foster home, where they're getting crate-training, house/potty-training, and leash-training. With puppies, ALL of those skills are a work in progress, so you will need to be prepared to continue putting in the work in order to have a well-trained, well-behaved dog.

These are just a few of the many amazing *but feral or not well socialized dogs* available for adoption. Feral dogs take a little more effort on your part but they deserve adopters who can see their wonderful qualities beyond their fear.
