NYC Second Chance Rescue is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit animal rescue founded in 2009 on the unwavering belief that all animals deserve love and compassion. We are a lifeline for thousands of dogs and cats in need of urgent medical care, and arrive in critical condition from neglect or abuse. We do our best to give them the second chance they deserve. 🚨🚨911 EMERGENCY: TWO SEVERELY ABUSED AND STARVED DOGS ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES TONIGHT.

We have a 911 emergency walking through our doors, and what we are about to share is absolutely sickening! We received a call from Shelter in Georgia.

Two dogs, emaciated, starved down to the bone, and barely clinging to life WERE JUST SURRENDERED BY THEIR OWNERS.

Their bodies are skin and bones, frail, covered in bloody diarrhea, fleas and open pressure sores.

They are painful, terrified and dying. The shelter thinks they’re only 2 years old.

The boy is the most critical, he is so severely emaciated that he has virtually no muscle mass left. He cannot even stand.

This is not just neglect. This is cruelty of the most horrific kind. Just looking in their eyes makes us want to scream and cry. This is cruel vicious abuse. We cannot begin to imagine the pain they are in or how scared they must be.

The fact that their owners felt comfortable walking into a shelter without fear of consequences, is beyond comprehension. A FULL INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY.

Right now, our priority is keeping these two innocent dogs alive. They are both critical and we cannot waste anymore time.

🚨 At 12pm today we got a call from staff at Buddy's Dog Den Williamsburg about a deceased dog under a sheet. We immediately alerted Tony from Animal Rescue Consortium (ARC) who arrived at the location within 45 minutes.

What he found was absolutely devastating. Another SKELETAL pitbull - lying lifeless on a NYC street in the lower east side.

Rigor mortis had not yet set in, suggesting this poor soul had died less than 6 hours ago.

HE WAS ALIVE.
HE WAS OUT THERE SUFFERING.
AND HE DIED ON THE STREETS OF NYC.

This is now the SIXTH skeletal dog we have been involved with. SIX. And we are not alone. Other NYC rescue organizations have also been taking in severely emaciated dogs.

THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THIS IS A CRISIS.

How many more dogs have to be found reduced to skin and bones? How many more innocent animals have to suffer unimaginable hunger and neglect? HOW MANY MORE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE SOMETHING CHANGES?!

Our rescues are drowning. Our shelters are overwhelmed. We are witnessing horrific suffering over and over again, and we are expected to somehow keep picking up the pieces.

WE CANNOT KEEP DOING THIS.

Animal rescue organizations cannot be the only ones fighting this battle. We need meaningful enforcement of animal cruelty laws. We need investigations. We need accountability. We need our city officials to recognize the severity of what is happening to these animals.

We are ANGRY. We are HEARTBROKEN. And we are absolutely EXHAUSTED from watching innocent animals suffer because humanity continues to fail them.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH NEW YORK CITY.

Tony gave him the name Cesar, a name worthy of a warrior. A boy who fought to survive until his little body simply couldn't fight anymore. He may have been abandoned by the world, but he will not be forgotten.

Happy Sunday from Lindo! Lindo is especially happy that Halloween is over! Black cats unfortunately face a stigma this time of year and this sweet boy deserves nothing but love.

Lindo is a 4-month-old kitten who is great with other cats. He sadly lost one of his eyes after being found as a stray kitten suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection that caused a corneal ulcer.

Juniper is all dressed up for Halloween, but the only treat she's wishing for is a forever home.

🦖 RAWR! The cutest pink dinosaur has entered the chat!
Saffron may be dressed as a fierce dinosaur, but underneath that costume is a goofy and affectionate girl looking for a forever home.

She is:
7 years old
People friendly
Dog friendly with dogs her size or larger
Not a fan of kitties or any small animals
Very affectionate and silly

Being in the city has been a bit stressful for her with all the sights and sounds, but she has been working so hard to be a brave girl. This Halloween, Saffron is looking to score the biggest treat of all - someone to give her a home to call her own. 💗

🤍 Benz was rescued from the side of the Southern State Parkway, where one wrong move could have cost him his life. Thankfully, John DeBacker jumped into action and Benz was given a second chance. He is now safe at our adoption center, waiting for someone to give him the loving home he deserves.

Benz is an incredibly sweet, affectionate boy who absolutely loves attention and human companionship. He has so much love to give and is just waiting for someone to give him that same love in return.

He is:
Sweet and affectionate
Loves human attention
Enjoys companionship
Could potentially live with another cat with proper introductions
Ready for his forever home

While Benz is safe with us, life in a kennel is no substitute for the comfort and freedom of a real home. After everything he has survived, he deserves a cozy place to sleep, someone to shower him with affection, and the security of knowing he finally belongs.

He survived the dangers of a busy highway. Now, let's give him the beautiful life he was rescued for. 🤍🐾

🕊️ Sir Patrick Stewart was an extrodinary man who leaves behind an incredible legacy not only in film and television, but also in the hearts of animal lovers everywhere.

The world knew him most notably as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek and Professor X in X-Men, but he was so much more than a Hollywood legend. Behind the fame was a compassionate man who used his voice to advocate for animals, especially one of the most abused and misunderstood breeds: the Pit Bull.

Patrick Stewart and his wife opened their home to foster rescue dogs - including a Pit Bull named Ginger, who stole his heart. Their bond helped challenge the stereotypes surrounding these dogs, showing the world the love, affection, and loyalty that so many Pit Bulls have to give.

But his advocacy went even further. Patrick became a powerful advocate against dogfighting and openly opposed the UK's breed-specific legislation, which prevented him from bringing Ginger home to England. He even brought his passion for Pit Bulls into his Hollywood career, featuring a rescue Pit Bull named Number One as Captain Picard's beloved companion in Star Trek: Picard. He wanted audiences to see these dogs for who they truly are, rather than the stereotypes and cruelty attached to them.

Every day, we see incredible Pit Bulls waiting in shelters - judged before anyone takes the time to know them. Patrick understood that these dogs deserve to be treated as individuals, not defined by fear or misconceptions.

His extraordinary career entertained generations, but his compassion helped change lives.

Our deepest condolences go out to his beloved wife, his family, friends, and everyone mourning this tremendous loss.

🚨 DEVASTATING UPDATE 🚨

The innocent puppy who was KICKED by someone in her own family and then abandoned at a veterinary office, is suffering from a serious and incredibly painful injury.

Preliminary xrays have determined Kona has a fractured pelvis.

This is not a minor injury. A pelvic fracture can be extremely painful and, depending on its severity, may require extensive treatment, surgery, and a long recovery.

Veterinarians need to do more in depth X-rays to get a clearer picture of the fracture, determine the extent of the damage, and decide what comes next.

One bit of good news in all of this - her leg does not appear to be broken, and she still has deep pain sensation in her toes - which is an encouraging neurological finding.

We are absolutely heartbroken for this precious little girl. She should be chasing toys and enjoying puppyhood, not facing an uncertain medical journey because of someone's cruelty.

We are hoping to have more answers after her additional X-rays, but one thing is certain: this baby needs us and her long medical journey is just beginning.

We are already drowning in emergency medical expenses this week, but we refuse to let this innocent puppy's future be determined by the cruelty she endured. Please continue sharing her story and donating towards her care if you can 🙏

We also want to address concerns about the initial video. She was being evaluated to assess her injuries, not intentionally hurt by those who had taken her to safety. In a perfect world, veterinary care and human healthcare would be free, but that is not reality. Veterinary hospitals cannot absorb every abandoned animal's medical expenses, and depending on local laws, they are often required to contact animal control. Please direct your outrage toward those responsible for her suffering - the family who broke her pelvis, then abandoned her, and the lawmakers who refuse to change the laws and punishments for animal cruelty.
