🚨 A BIG FREDDY UPDATE

We have a big update to share on Freddy this evening. Tomorrow is his big day.

Tomorrow, Freddy will undergo surgery to remove both of his eyes; eyes that were destroyed after years of unimaginable neglect.

Tomorrow, he starts over.

Tomorrow, we begin to wash away the pain of everything that was done to him and give him the chance to finally live without suffering.

His doctors have spent these last days doing everything possible to get him strong enough for this moment. He has received blood transfusions. He has been given the nutrition his starving body desperately needed. He has gained weight. He has been on pain management and antibiotics to fight the severe infection surrounding his eyes and ears.

And now, it’s go time.

But it’s never easy.

Freddy has already been through so much, and this is a major surgery. We just pray that his little body is strong enough to make it through.

Tonight, we’re asking our entire Second Chance family to surround Freddy with love.

Please leave your notes for him below. Send him every ounce of healing energy you have. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he goes into surgery tomorrow.

🚨 REN & STIMPY UPDATE

Just days ago, Ren & Stimpy were rescued from a Bronx basement where they had been abandoned.

Their condition was horrifying.

They were covered in urine and f***s, fleas and hundreds of maggots. Stimpy’s coat was so severely matted that it had wrapped tightly around his foot and leg, cutting into his flesh.

It took hours to free him from the painful coat he had been trapped inside. And beneath it was a deep, open and infected wound.

It is difficult to imagine how long they lived like this or how much they suffered before someone finally came for them.

And somehow, after everything they have endured, Ren & Stimpy are incredibly sweet. They seek out affection. They want to be close. They welcome the gentle hands caring for them.

There is something incredibly heartbreaking about animals who were failed so terribly by humans still choosing to trust us.

Rescue takes a village, and there are some people we need to thank.

The new superintendent of the building could have looked the other way. Instead, when he discovered Ren & Stimpy, he immediately began reaching out to rescues looking for someone who would help them.

We are also so grateful to every person who donated, shared their story and stood behind them and to the news outlets that helped bring their story to a larger audience. Bringing attention to cases like this matters. Animal abuse cannot be allowed to happen quietly, behind closed doors.

And because of all of you, Ren & Stimpy are no longer alone.

They remain hospitalized and are receiving the medical care and love they should have had all along.

After everything these two have survived, they deserve to know what it feels like to walk through a door and finally be home ❤️

🧡 Today belongs to the orange cats, and we couldn’t think of a better one to celebrate than Kopa.

At just 1 year of age, Kopa was found on the streets, left to fend for himself in the Bronx . We don’t know anything about the life he had before he was found, but we do know what we want for his future - a family.

Ginger Cat Appreciation Day was created by Chris Roy in honor of his beloved ginger cat, Doobert, who passed away in 2014. Chris turned his grief into something meaningful, creating a day not only to celebrate the special orange cats in our lives, but to encourage people to help cats that are still waiting for someone to love them.

This day may have started with one very loved orange cat, but its legacy can help another find that same kind of love.

Maybe this year, that cat is Kopa. 🧡

💔We have a critical update to share on Owl. If you recall, yesterday we received an urgent call for help to save a starved dog who was found dumped on a Brooklyn sidewalk near Owl’s Head Park.

Her condition is horrifying, and let us be clear — she can’t walk. She was intentionally tortured and then dumped.

Owl was found severely emaciated, extremely weak, and unable to stand on her own. Her nails were so horrifically overgrown and curled that it was clear she had been neglected for a very long time.

We immediately got her into veterinary care, and today we know a little more. Owl is estimated to be 5–7 years old. That’s likely 5-7 years she lived with her abuser. Half of her lifetime.

She has bedsores over the bony areas of her body and a necrotic, ulcerated tip of her tail that may require amputation; clear signs that she was likely locked up, unable to access food, and left to waste away.

She is receiving around-the-clock care and being closely monitored for refeeding syndrome. The truth is, we don’t have a crystal ball that can tell us whether she will make it. Every second that she remains in this condition is scary.

But we are doing everything in our power to save her life. If she can pull through this, she will require weeks of hospitalization.

We want to thank everyone who helped us save Owl. Please continue to donate toward her medical care as we work to heal all the horrible things that were done to her.

🚨 URGENT FOSTER NEEDED FOR JIMMY 🚨

Jimmy has survived more than any dog ever should.

When he came into our care, he was emaciated, covered in f***s, ticks and fleas. He had deep wounds around his neck, an infected wound on his head, fractured teeth, heartworm disease and a painfully fractured front leg.

After extensive medical care over the last several weeks, Jimmy underwent surgery to repair his broken leg and while his leg remains in a cast, we were finally able to address his teeth. Jimmy had his dental surgery this weekend and had 12 teeth pulled.

Now he desperately needs somewhere safe and comfortable to recover.

Jimmy is still in a cast, and we do NOT want his recovery to continue in our kennels. He needs a foster home where he can rest, heal and finally experience some normalcy outside of a hospital or rescue environment.

Because of his injury and splint, Jimmy's foster must be in the NYC area so he can return for bandage changes. He also needs a no-stairs home and, if at all possible, someone who is home most of the day. With the way his splint is positioned, Jimmy needs to get up and move around every few hours. He cannot be left alone for a 9 to 5 workday.

Jimmy survived the neglect.
He survived the wounds.
He made it through leg surgery and losing 12 teeth.

Please don't let the next part of his recovery happen in a kennel.

We need someone to open their home to Jimmy and give him the quiet, safe place he has been waiting for.

But we can’t help but think he was wondering, “When is it going to be my turn?”

Gordo is only three years old and he is absolutely perfection. He’s wonderful with people, great with other cats, and has so much love to give. He’s been patiently waiting and it’s definitely his turn. So come see him and the 40 others at our LIC adoption center… it’s also the last day of the summer of love reduced fees! 🚨 911 OUT OF BROOKLYN - ANOTHER SEVERELY STARVED AND ABUSED DOG.

At approximately 5 AM this morning, a man was walking his dog near Owl’s Head Park in Brooklyn when he heard a dog crying. He followed the cries and what he found was absolutely horrific.

A dog was lying there, skin and bones, severely emaciated, unable to stand or walk, and in critical condition. An independent rescuer was alerted and immediately contacted us, begging for help.

We were horrified and outraged by the images.

Her body is skin and bones with open sores, her head in sunken in and her nails are severely overgrown and curling beneath her feet. Her body tells the story of prolonged starvation and abuse.

Dogs do not become this emaciated overnight. This was not a stray dog surviving on the streets for a few days. This level of starvation takes time. Prolonged suffering. Neglect. Cruelty.

🚨The devil is among us in New York.

Owl was rushed to one of our critical care hospitals, where she remains in critical condition. She is at high risk for refeeding syndrome and electrolyte imbalances; all conditions that can lead to a sudden heart attack.

She needs stabilization, bloodwork, diagnostics, fluids, nutritional support, and intensive medical care.

We will do everything we can to save her life. Please help us raise the critical funds to save Owl. This is a tragedy.

đź’” When we first learned about Ziggrietta, she had already been sitting in a shelter for more than a week after being hit by a car. Her leg had catastrophic injuries, with open wounds exposing tissue and bone, and she desperately needed medical care the shelter simply did not have the resources to provide.

You helped us get her out and into the care of our partner veterinarian, where doctors have been fighting to save her badly injured leg and get the raging infection under control.

Unfortunately, Ziggrietta is still feeling very sick.

Along with everything her body has already been through, she is now requiring nebulizer treatments twice a day.Her body is exhausted and she simply does not feel well.

We are still taking this day by day. Her leg suffered devastating trauma, the infection had more than a week to progress before she reached us, and her body is continuing to fight.

Please keep Ziggrietta in your prayers. We need her infection to respond. We need her body to heal. And most of all, we need our sweet girl to start feeling like herself again. đź’•
