One of the best parts of Horses for Heroes is what happens beyond the arena... 💙🇺🇸

Each month, a group of women Veterans gathers at Starbrite to catch up, share stories, laugh together, and spend time with others who truly understand.

Watching these friendships grow month after month is a reminder that the connections made through Horses for Heroes don’t end when the ride is over. They continue to grow through community, support, and time spent together!

Ever wonder what our staff is up to during administrative breaks? 💙

While lessons may be on pause, we’re still hard at work preparing for the semester ahead!!

Last week, our staff became certified in CPR and First Aid for Professional Rescuers through the American Red Cross.

We chose this certification so our team is prepared to work together if an emergency ever happens, helping us provide the safest environment possible for our participants, volunteers, and visitors.

We had a great time welcoming some new faces to the barn at today’s volunteer training! 💙🐎

Our new volunteers learned all about barn chores, got an inside look at what sidewalkers do during lessons, and spent some time getting to know the horses.

Did you know horses get massages too? 💆‍♂️🐎

Just like people, horses can benefit from massage therapy! It can help increase blood flow and oxygen circulation, improve lymphatic flow, increase range of motion, reduce muscle soreness and inflammation, help with post-exercise recovery, and much more! All of these benefits help keep our horses healthy and comfortable so they can continue doing what they do best.

Last week, some of our Starbrite horses got to enjoy a massage session, and we think it’s safe to say they didn’t mind being a little spoiled!!

A huge thank you to Kristan Heard for taking such great care of our herd. We appreciate everything you do to help keep our horses healthy, happy, and feeling their best!

Our June Volunteer of the Month is Kelsie!✨🎉

Since joining Starbrite in April, Kelsie has been a wonderful part of our volunteer team. She helps with sidewalking during lessons, jumps in with barn chores, and is always looking for ways to learn and grow so she can better support our riders and horses.

Her positive attitude and willingness to keep learning make her such a valuable part of the Starbrite family, and we’re so grateful for everything she does!

As her Volunteer of the Month reward, Kelsie will be taking riding lessons on Maybelline, and we couldn’t be more excited for her!

It’s hard to believe we’re already wrapping up our summer semester! 💙🐎

This week marks the last week of summer lessons, and it’s been such a special one! Not only did we get to welcome our riders back, but we also got to spend our very first semester in the new Adams Barn. Watching the arena come to life with riders, horses, volunteers, and families has been something we’ll never forget.

To our riders, thank you for another amazing semester. Watching your confidence grow, celebrating your victories, and sharing in your journey is why we’re here.

We’ll miss seeing your smiling faces around the barn, but we already can’t wait to welcome everyone back for our fall semester!

Meet Julie and learn a little bit about her!

⭐️ Her favorite thing about her job: "I love that no two days look the same — one day I’m planning an event, the next I’m meeting donors or helping bring a new idea to life. The best part is knowing all those pieces support something truly life-changing for our riders. It’s work that feels joyful and meaningful."

⭐️ What she does at Starbrite: "I help plan events, support our donors and community relationships, and keep lots of moving parts organized behind the scenes. My role is really about helping people connect to Starbrite, whether that’s through an event, a conversation, or sharing what makes this place so special."

⭐️ How she got started at Starbrite: “I wanted to be part of an organization that not only changes lives, but also reflects faith and serves God through its mission and the way it cares for people. When I learned more about Starbrite and met the team, it just felt like the right place. I’m grateful to be here and excited to be part of what God is doing through this program."

⭐️ Most rewarding thing about her job: “Seeing the impact up close is the most rewarding part — watching riders gain confidence, families feel supported, and veterans reconnect with hope. Knowing that the work I do behind the scenes helps make those moments possible is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a daily reminder that this mission truly matters."
