Hi everyone and Happy New Year!
I am back in Flathead Valley full time, and have a few openings for new clients!

I had stacked my schedule in order to take some time off and go hunting, and now have a little open time to fill, so this is a reminder that in addition to halter breaking colts and handling feet, I also offer pet sitting and farm sitting for clients! Most of your animals already know me, and most of you know how much legitimate veterinary knowledge and animal behavioral education I bring to our visits. For the rest of you, I've been a farrier for 20 years this year, and have horses myself, as well as my own menagerie of border collies and cats. A lot of the focus of my education has been horsemanship and dog training, and I'm looking to diversify a bit and use some of that!

I'm also would also be delighted to take dogs on hikes!! I'm in need of an excuse to hike far more often, would absolutely love to add some time to the schedule that's easier on my back than shoeing, while taking dog friends on adventures.

Please feel free to give a shout if any of this fits your current needs, and we can discuss!

Yellowstone fans that are real horse people got a little confusing information on the Sunday, November 17, 2024 episode. This popular show appears to take pride in its western production on being very authentic - yet some how they had a BIG mistake with treating a horse with intramuscular Banamine.

What is the BIG deal? In this Yellowstone episode a horse was administered Banamine (Flunixin Meglumine) intramuscularly. Yet the nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory is only administered orally (in the mouth) or intravenously (in the vein). Remember Banamine is never recommend to be administered to horses any other way.

Why not? Banamine causes muscle damage when injected intramuscularly! There are spores of bacteria known as clostridium that can rest in healthy muscle; however, the bacteria may awaken if the muscle becomes damaged from an IM injection particularly when Banamine is administered this way. This may cause clostridial myositis - which is a serious and sometimes fatal disease. Post injection signs of a problem would be swelling and a painful injection site with gas underneath the skin. The bacterial toxins may migrate into the bloodstream causing depression, colic, fever and a lose of appetite. Treatment by a licensed DVM is necessary if you make this mistake. Supportive care, antibiotics, and possibly a surgical excision of the infected injected site may be necessary.

This episode of Yellowstone was a good reminder - what is entertaining may not always be real and correct. Check with your equine veterinarian if you are unsure how to administer Banamine.

We need help, guys. We lost one of the very best, kindest, funniest, toughest, most loving people I have ever met, and her family needs help.
We have a lot to sort out, and her fiancee needs any help we can give him. There are horses that will need to be cared for and sorted, funeral expenses, and general support for her family.

I am absolutely heartbroken, I've been shoeing for Shauna Ferguson for most of the past 5 years, and this is my own friend and sissy. I'm just gutted. Bless you, anybody who can give a hand.

On January 11th, we all unexpectedly lost our sweet and silly Shauna. Shโ€ฆ Shay LaPrath needs your support for Funeral & unexpected costs for Shauna's family

Nequette Farrier Service has moved South a bit along Flathead Lake! Based out of the Lakeside area, I'm now able to serve a much more extensive area including Dayton, Lakeside, Polson, Bigfork Kalispell, and most of Flathead Valley.

We have skipped spring and gone straight to summer and green grass, and feet are growing faster than I can keep up with trims! I have a few openings in my schedule, and would love to help you with your hoofcare needs.
