Did you know that herding drive is actually just a glitchy wolf instinct? 🐺

Customizing a dog breed is like being a genetic software engineer. A wild wolf relies on a strict sequence to survive:

Orient ➔ Eye ➔ Stalk ➔ Chase ➔ Grab-Bite ➔ Kill-Bite

We wrapped up a chaotic, busy rodeo week this month, and amid the dust and the thousands of spectators in the arena, I learned something hilarious. 🤠 I learned that my Mini Aussie, Walter, completely lacks a herding drive. Instead of herding the sheep, Walter spent his grand debut being actively pursued by the sheep. 😂

While Walter’s pride might be wounded, it got me thinking about how complex herding genetics really are. Why do some dogs have it, while others run away? Why do pet homes end up with puppies chasing the neighborhood kids?

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there! 🐾 Let’s be honest, we have to shout out the dog dads today too—because we all know those four-legged fur babies can cost just as much as kids! 😂

A massive Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful dad, and an extra special Happy Father’s Day to my husband, Michael. Thank you, Michael, for everything you do and for putting up with a lot (you deserve a medal, or at least a long nap today)!

😴 A peaceful end to a very chaotic day... 😴

If you need us, we will be resting right alongside these sweet mamas! Today was an absolute whirlwind here at the ranch.

☕️ This morning: Poppy’s "Caffeine Rush" crew of 8 packed up and headed out for their very first vet checkup!

🎬 This afternoon: Rocket’s "Silver Screen" crew of 7 took over the afternoon shift for their turn at the clinic!

After a full day of car rides, puppy checkups, and lots of handling, we have the absolute best news: Everyone is 100% healthy, thriving, and growing perfectly! 🎉🐾

Now, the puppies are milk-drunk and dreaming, the mamas are getting some well-deserved rest, and we are finally catching our breath. There is truly nothing better than a quiet whelping box and a clean bill of health.

Thank you to our amazing vet team at Healthy Paws for taking such great care of our 15 tiny blessings today! ❤️

Nessie vs. The Lion

The moment I knew my dog recognized what was on TV:

We were watching a nature documentary. A massive African lion appeared on screen and began taking down its prey. My Toy Aussie, Nessie, locked on with absolute, intense focus. They weren't just watching moving blobs; they became visibly upset—whining and intensely tracking the danger. It proved that modern screens deliver a realism that forces a deep response.

No, you aren’t accidentally seeing photos in black and white! Mama Rocket took the "Silver Screen" classic Hollywood theme very literally this time. She essentially just hit copy and paste on herself 6 times! 😂🖤🤍
