Are you interested in adventure walks for your pup? Mad Dawgs has some openings for Dawg Day Adventures. 🐾

It’s more than just a 2 1/2 hour walk. Cue work, socialization, leash skills, and enrichment are part of the experience. Our clients will tell you that their dogs look forward to their walks and wait patiently for Jon’s truck to pull up. 🦮

If you’re interested, reach out to Jon at (516) 497-0060 or send him a FB message for more details.

Say hello to Rocky! 👋🏻 🐾

Rocky is just a puppy with typical puppy behaviors, but he won’t be small for long! In larger breeds, seemingly harmless negative behaviors have bigger consequences.

One strategy Jon is using is controlling the environment through crate training. Rocky has to learn his environment and what acceptable behaviors are.

We can’t wait to see Rocky’s progress! 💙

During our Dawg Day Adventures, Bailey has been working on agility and making great progress. Bailey loves the game and we love the result!

A seemingly simple obstacle can sometimes be a big challenge. We have worked with multiple dogs to conquer this blue hoop but have had no success. Bailey said, “Bring it on!”

Thanks to Rover's Ridge the Dog Park at White House for providing a wonderful location for enrichment and agility.

Most teachers don’t appreciate a student sleeping, but we view it as a good thing!

Millie was certainly tuckered out after working her brain learning new cues. This behavior helped Jon know that he effectively expended her energy and that that was enough training for one day. 🐾

Agility work is such a great form of enrichment for dogs. Unfortunately, it gets overlooked quite often.

During our Dawg Day Adventures, Jon makes sure to take full advantage of available obstacles. Over the past few months, our pups have made great strides in overcoming their fears.

Just as with basic training, agility work requires patience, a clear message to the dog, and baby steps! The payoff is the happy face of accomplishment. 🐾

Say hello to Caesar! 👋🏻 🐾

Believe it or not, this big boy is still just a puppy. If he wasn’t 110+ lbs at 6 months, his negative behaviors like jumping and playful mouthing wouldn’t be that “big” of an issue. However, when he jumps up, he can easily move a grown man.

Big breeds require different ideas and methods. Implementing redirection activities will help to create a positive alternative to negative behaviors. So far, controlling his environment by corralling him into his pen is proving to be very helpful.

We can’t wait to share Caesar’s progress!

It’s been a while since we posted, but Jon has been busy getting our new Dawg Day Adventurers comfortable! Angel and Gnash are just two of our newest clients. 🐾

Even though it was Angel’s first time away from her mom, she absolutely loved her day out. On the other hand, Gnash is taking things slow. As you can see, he enjoys his time out. However, full trust is not yet gained. Patience is key when it comes to trust-building.

Our Dawg Day Adventures are not your typical day out. We work leash skills, proper socialization, and learn how to deal with unfamiliar situations and environments. If you are interested in enrolling your dog in our adventures program, reach out to Jon today!

Say hello to Millie! 👋🏻 🐾

Millie was rescued from our local Walmart parking lot. At only 6 weeks old, she is not quite ready for cue work. However, there are still lessons to learn at this age.

Jon and her owners discussed proper socialization methods, such as taking trips to the vet to desensitize the scary experience. She already shows signs of confidence and has even tackled going up and down stairs.

While we still have some time before we start cue work, her owners are on the right path to having a well-trained pup.

Recently, Gene W. Brown Elementary School invited Mad Dawgs to be part of the One Book Blitz. 📕 🐾

All of the Title I schools in Sumner County are reading Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Since the novel is about a dog, various pet businesses in the local community were invited to participate in Gene Brown’s family night. Jon had a chance to share his knowledge of dog training with children and their families.

Thank you to Gene Brown for inviting us! We love being involved in events like these.

We wanted to give a shout out to one of our Most Improved Dawg Day Adventurers, Toby. 🐾

Toby was one of our first Dawg Day Adventure pups and has come such a long way. He was very reactive to dogs and people, which caused Jon to veer from the trail when people were going to pass by. Today, Toby no longer requires major detours from the walking path. While not perfect, his tolerance for other dogs and people has improved significantly.

Often times, redirection is the strategy of choice. However, Toby struggled to take his attention off of his stressors; treats, toys, and noise makers were all unsuccessful. Instead, Jon focused on walking cues and worked with Toby’s natural herding instincts.

We are so proud of Toby!

Today was a long day. I just hope the pups are as tired as I am!
