TROUBLE PUFFS = NO BABIES
Every year people ask us how they can tell if a dead opossum has babies. The first step would be to note if the opossum is male or female. If it’s a male, you don’t need to worry about babies because opossums are more of the “love ‘em and leave ‘em” type.

To demonstrate the difference, we asked Albert if we could take a photo of his tussle truffles for the sake of education. He reluctantly agreed.

His picture is on the left. Generally their mayhem beans have a slightly blue tint and are easy to recognize.

If the opossum is female and has babies, her pouch should be easily notable by looking at her abdomen, as pictured on the right. Please don’t attempt to remove the babies on your own. Please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator to help the little ones.

Thank you for caring—and please thank Albert, for his noble sacrifice in the name of education…

🐾 Coyote Mating Season: Facts vs. Fiction 🐾
January and February mark coyote mating season, often leading to an increase in sightings—and unfortunately, a rise in misinformation on social media.

Many posts shared during this time create unnecessary fear and misrepresent these fascinating animals. Most coyote conflicts are avoidable through proactive measures, changes in human behavior, and responsible pet care. Let’s set the record straight and share ways to coexist peacefully with these resilient creatures!

🐺 Coyote Mating Season Facts & Coexistence Tips
🌟 They live as individuals, mated pairs, or in family packs.
🌟 Coyotes often mate for life and are dedicated parents.
🌟 Coyotes naturally avoid humans. Bold behavior typically stems from human-related factors like feeding, roaming dogs, or defending dens.
🌟 Coyotes do NOT lure dogs. If chased, they may retreat toward family for safety, which could escalate into defensive behavior.
🌟 Increased sightings and vocalizations are normal as coyotes establish territory and seek mates.
🌟 Pets should be supervised, especially at dawn and dusk, and kept in secure, fenced areas. Coyotes DO NOT know the difference between livestock or pets. If they see an easy opportunity for a meal they will take it.
🌟 Coyotes are NOT more aggressive during this season, though they may protect their family or den if threatened.

Did You Know?
Coyotes are the most persecuted animals in North America, with over hundreds of thousands killed each year. Indiscriminate killing disrupts family structures and fails to reduce populations or prevent conflicts.

Let’s combat fear-based narratives by spreading facts and tips for peaceful coexistence. Together, we can help protect coyotes and foster understanding about their vital role in our ecosystem.

From Critter’s Caretaker ⬇️⬇️

Lately, I have been experiencing intense feeling of sadness and disappointment in the human race. Seems to happen a lot these days. I got this adult gray fox in just as I was sitting down to eat around 1pm, he passed before 3pm. There was absolutely nothing that was obviously wrong. Eyes were clear, no signs of disease, coat was in excellent condition, not even a tick or burdock, no signs of trauma from being hit by a car…. nothing except extremely pale gums as you can see in the picture. Rodenticide poison strikes again😡 This makes #6 for me this year alone. I plan to have a necropsy to confirm that he died due to poison☠️

Take a good look into his eyes, what do you see? How does this make you feel? can we get people and businesses to stop using rat poison. It kills so much more than rats!

Drop a 🧡 in the comments if you will take the pledge to not use poison for rodents. There are so many other options out there.
