Finn is celebrating Hug Your Cat Day exactly the way we'd expect, with plenty of cuddles from the team. And just look at that yawn at the end! ❤️🐱

This sweet kitten belongs to Lydia, one of our fantastic veterinary assistants, and he was more than happy to soak up some extra love around the hospital.

Whether your cat enjoys being held close or prefers affection from a respectful distance, today is a great reminder to celebrate the special bond we share with our feline friends.

Give your cat an extra hug (if they'll allow it!) and tell us about them in the comments below. 😸

This month, we're celebrating a very special milestone: Dr. Gwen Zupancich's 25th anniversary with White Bear Animal Hospital! 🎉🐾

When Dr. Zupancich joined our team in 2001, veterinary medicine looked very different. Paper charts, a Rolodex of client information, hand-processed X-rays, and no dental radiographs were the norm. Over the past 25 years, she's witnessed incredible advances in veterinary medicine, from the growing focus on feline healthcare to modern dental and oral surgery techniques.

But despite all the changes, Dr. Zupancich says the most important part of veterinary medicine has remained the same: the privilege of connecting with pets and their families and building relationships that last for years.

Her journey with White Bear Animal Hospital began during a two-week externship in veterinary school. She quickly fell in love with the White Bear Lake community and the clients who cared so deeply for their pets. Twenty-five years later, after caring for generations of pets, raising her three boys, and becoming a partial owner of the practice, she says, "This place and this community are truly part of my family."

One of the things Dr. Zupancich treasures most is the opportunity to walk alongside families throughout every stage of their pets' lives—from welcoming a new puppy or kitten, to providing senior care, and sometimes helping families through difficult goodbyes. Those lifelong relationships, she says, are what make the work so meaningful.

As she reflects on 25 years of caring for the pets and families of White Bear Lake, her message is one of gratitude:

"Thank you for trusting me with your beloved pets and for letting me be part of your families. It has been an honor and a joy."

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Zupancich on 25 incredible years of compassionate care, dedication, and service to our community. ❤️

Meet Ladybug ❤️

Ladybug is a 14-year-old Yorkie who was here for her Senior Wellness Exam. At 14 years young, she continues to make a huge difference in the lives of people throughout our community.

Alongside her caregiver, Ladybug volunteers with two incredible local organizations to bring comfort, companionship, and a little extra joy to those who need it most.

🚪 Through Help at Your Door Services, Ladybug rides along while her caregiver helps transport seniors to appointments. Clients are always excited to see her, and many look forward to having her curl up in their lap during the ride.

❤️ Twice weekly, they also visit patients through Grace Hospice. Patients who once had dogs of their own are comforted by petting Ladybug as she quietly lies by their side.

Ladybug is such a beautiful reminder that senior pets still have so much love, purpose, and joy to share with the world.

Thank you, Ladybug and family, for making our community a little brighter.

Jenny and her sidekick for the day are here to share Heat Safety Tips for White Bear Pets!

☀️ Memorial Day Weekend is almost here, and while we’re all excited for sunshine, BBQs, lake days, and time outdoors, warmer temperatures can sneak up on our pets quickly, even here in White Bear Lake.

As temperatures climb into the 80s and beyond, remember:
🐾 Avoid hot pavement during peak afternoon heat
💧 Always bring fresh water on walks and outings
🚗 Never leave pets in parked vehicles, even “just for a minute”
🌳 Make sure pets have access to shade and cool resting areas
😮‍💨 Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness, or bright red gums

Some pets, especially senior pets, puppies, flat-faced breeds, and pets with medical conditions, are even more sensitive to heat and humidity.

We hope you and your pets have a safe, fun, and relaxing holiday weekend together ❤️

Bo, Krista (Client Service Rep at White Bear)'s 11-year-old pup, managed to sneak some leftover smoked rib bones from the trash… and unfortunately, his stomach paid the price. After a rough bout of vomiting and diarrhea (and close monitoring for anything more serious), Bo is thankfully doing much better. ❤️

Photos include:
🍽️ Bo VERY excited for his special meal from Dr. Crumb
😖 Bo immediately questioning his life choices after tasting it
💧 Hanging out with Certified Vet Tech Veronica while getting fluids and of course, collecting all the compliments 🥰 from his fan club (aka the clinic staff)

Even when you know better, accidents happen. We’re just glad our team could be there for one of our own and help Bo feel better as quickly as possible.

⚠️Friendly Reminder:
Cooked bones can splinter and cause serious stomach and intestinal issues for pets.

Nova was spayed in the morning and was already back home making biscuits by the afternoon. 🐾

While every pet recovers differently, moments like this are a wonderful example of why we place such a strong emphasis on comfort-focused care and multi-modal pain management for our surgical patients.

Multi-modal pain management means we use a combination of medications and techniques before, during, and after surgery to help control pain in different ways. This approach helps keep pets more comfortable, supports smoother recoveries, reduces stress, and allows many patients to return to resting comfortably at home much sooner.

From carefully monitoring anesthesia to providing warmth, comfort, pain control, and lots of love during recovery, our team is focused on making the entire surgical experience as stress-free and comfortable as possible for your pet.

And for Nova… that meant getting back to one of her favorite activities: making biscuits 💙🐱
