Fishing Creek Rat Terriers

Fishing Creek Rat Terriers We have a small farm and just enjoy the breed of Rat Terriers. We have A&B dogs, Steele, Rein and Shadow are B types. Cruella, Corky, Ruby and Della are A types.

All studs are A's. Our dogs are health tested for PLL and PRAPRCD and clear. The Rat Terrier comes in a variety of coat colors and sizes. The classic coloring is black tanpoint with piebald spotting (known as black tricolor), but chocolate, tan (varying in shade from pale gold to dark mahogany), blue, isabella (pearl), lemon and apricot are all fairly common. They may be tricolor or bicolor, alway

s with some amount of white present. Sable may overlay any of these colors. Creeping tan (often "Calico"), is also acceptable. Ticking is usually visible in the white parts of the coat, or in the underlying skin. Brindle, currently disallowed by the main breed standards, is considered by some to be a traditional Rat Terrier pattern, and there is a growing movement to have this pattern accepted into the breed. Although often mistaken for a Jack Russell Terrier, the Rat Terrier has a different profile and a very different temperament. Rat Terriers are sleeker in musculature, finer of bone, and have a more refined head. They always have a short single coat, rather than being wire coated. Rat Terriers tend to be less aggressive than Jack Russells; while they have a definite terrier personality they also have an "off switch" and love lounging on the sofa in a lap as much as tearing about the yard. Rat Terriers are normally cheerful dogs, and they tend to be calmer and more sensitive than Jack Russells to changes in their environment, owner's moods, or to unexpected noises, people, and activities. The social sensitivity of Rat Terriers makes them very trainable and easier to live with for the average pet owner, but it also means that extensive socialization from an early age is critical. Proper socialization of a Rat Terrier puppy includes exposing the animal to a wide variety of people and places, particularly during the first three months of life. Like most active and intelligent breeds, Rat Terriers tend to be happier when they receive a great deal of mental stimulation and exercise. We have both A and B type puppies. Rein (black Tri) is an AB mix. Steele (Blue Tux) is an AB mix. Cruella (black white tri) is A type. Ruby (Black Tri)is A type. Rusty (pearl) and Kevin (Chocolate Tri) are both A type. Although most of our puppies are A type we do have some with shorter legs due to the B type being in some of our bloodlines, in each litter. Steele and Cruella are both daughters of Rein and can produce B type puppies.

Its that time again! Since puppies are almost ready to go starting June 12th, this is what they will have received at pick up. Up to date on deworming and vaccines. Although they are up to date, THEY STILL NEED additional deworming and vaccines after pick up. Puppies will be expelling worms due to the deworming process and need deworming until 3 months of age. They will also require 2 additional vaccines, after pick up. I have included the deworming and vaccine schedule here as well. They will receive their 1st vaccines this week.

We tried to get the pups in action for you, but it seems to be a bit early. We went in the field today and by the creek! They're 4 1/2 weeks old now. Hopefully in another week we can get some video. Did manage to get some cute pictures! We only have 4 pups totals. 1st picture are all 4.

Our Story

The Rat Terrier is cheerful and sensitive. Although he definitely has a terrier personality, he’s calmer than some terrier breeds such as the Jack Russell and enjoys lap time with his people. He likes to “talk,” and is always willing to share his opinion with you.

Life with a Rat Terrier is never dull. Smart, active and fun-loving, he doesn’t want to miss out on anything exciting. This makes him a great companion, but it also means he can become bored and destructive when no one is home to keep him entertained. He is also prone to separation anxiety, so it’s essential for him to receive plenty of socialization, early crate training, and practice being alone in a crate or dog-proofed room.

Despite his small size, this dog needs plenty of training and exercise, plus a dog-proofed home, to keep him out of trouble. If your Rat Terrier is less than two years old, you can’t expect to leave him on his own in the house. Locking him in a room won’t work; he’ll just chew his way out, so plan to use a dog crate, tall baby gates and exercise pens to keep him confined, and make sure they’re not near any drywall or linoleum that could be chewed.
