You get what you reinforce.

Your puppy can't stop chewing up your things until you 1.) create an environment that sets your dog up for success, and 2.) reinforce what you want to see more of.

Puppies are going to chew. You have to teach them what is appropriate to chew on. When you're not actively teaching your puppy to ignore certain items, those items should be put away. When you are able to actively engage with your puppy, you should be training how to be around those objects.

If your puppy is a bitey or chewing mood, you need to have appropriate items available for them to relieve that energy. Puppies need to chew and bite things.

Make sure that you have toys that holds your dog's attention. You will need to redirect attention to the items and teach the dog to choose them instead of the inappropriate things.

If your pup is chewing on the carpet, they want something they can pull against. A larger stuffed toy works great.

If they are pulling on the curtains or your clothes, redirect to a rope and play a strong game of tug.

If they are chewing on your baseboards, table legs, and cabinets, you need an age appropriate hard chew like nylabone or a bully horn.

The human half of training is equally important here. You have to redirect in a way that doesn't accidently reward the poor behavior.

Sometimes, emotions get attached to what we want to be an interrupter, and we inadvertantly resource guard objects which can lead to the dog returning the favor by doing the same, or we teach them to do these poor behaviors out of our sight.

Break down what you want to see in place of poor behavior. Formulate a plan to create and reinforce it in a way that the dog finds rewarding. Repeat until it becomes a habit.

You get what you reinforce.
