Kari has the sweetest face! She is an older gal with osteoarthritis. Do you have a dog showing signs of pain? It can be tricky to tell the signs of pain in an animal! It has been found that 80% of dogs over the age of 8, and 20% of dogs over the age of 1 have osteoarthritis to some degree. Talking about pain control for our patients is OUR JAM and we want to help you and your dog at your next visit!

One of the ways this painful and progressive joint disease can be treated is with a drug called Adequan, which is what Kari was getting during her visit. Adequan has numerous beneficial effects for the arthritis patient including the inhibition of harmful enzymes involving joint cartilage destruction, stimulation of cartilage repair, and increasing joint lubrication. Adequan is given as an injection and so is able to reach all joints, but it seems to have a special affinity for damaged joints. This medication is started with frequent administrations and reduced to injections 1-2 times per month.
